How big is this library? Sounds enormous in chapter2...

Hi all! I'm in. This book is one of my new purchases. I was drawn to it mainly because the cover is SO beautiful.

I read the book yesterday... I thought it was alright... the premise is one of my weaknesses (anything to do with time travel or alternate dimensions)... I was worried at the end that the series was going to get locked into this single world going forward, but the blurbs for books 2-5 are promising in their mentions of other worlds...

Early: (view spoiler)[This whole scenario has a real Warehouse 13 vibe to me... secret group collecting books/artifacts... enormous repository...

The timey-wimey mythical bad guy kinda reminds me of Clive Ronan from the Chronicles of St. Mary's (hide spoiler)]

Middle: (view spoiler)[I'm glad they avoided the sexual relationship between Kai and Irene... mostly because of the Chronicles of St. Mary's again, where the relationship is hit or miss... (hide spoiler)]

End: (view spoiler)[I wonder if this ending means that the detective will get to join/help in future assignments?... Kind of a more Doctor Who approach, with companions... even if that goes against Library Protocol...

So many mysterious political machinations, as well... hopefully they won't mire down the series... this plot with the skin-thief and the niece seems interesting... with him locked out of this alternate Earth, I wonder if he'll be showing up in every book or not...

The most obvious/cliche'd candidate for the niece is the MC, but that leads to questions about her mother/parents... and what about the jealousy of that other Librarian?...

I read a lot... as you've probably seen in the team competition threads...

My schedule was open yesterday, since I have less BRs this month, and Virginie and others hadn't decided to continue with 2 more Kate Daniels books yet... now I'm back doing that, near the end of book 3 and about to start book 4... still going to probably need something before my next BR on the 4th...

The book also went quickly because the narrator had this slow way of speaking, and stopping and humming on the last syllable at the end of sentences, so I listened at 2x speed...

I'm rarely a good benchmark for progress... I'm like that Hare that takes a nap and then runs past you and finishes early (without the oversleeping and losing the race part of the fable)...

If I start early, I tend to finish early, and don't always have much to say until others show up... at least if I start late I have more to respond to...

Started this today haven't gotten too far in yet (10%). Liking it so far can't wait to learn more about the Library.

I'm curious about Kai he has strong opinions about how family should act I wonder if hes actually a noble. Does the Senior librarian know? (hide spoiler)]

I started last night, the first chapter was great! I got a Pratchett feel from the writing and I love that she (view spoiler)[ goes on missions to other worlds to steal books! (hide spoiler)] I didn't read the blurb (not since I added it to my shelf), went into this pretty blind and I've been presently surprised so far.

The ending seemed kinda rushed so much happened.

I've just finished chapter 10, the world is shaping up to be really cool and a I love the writing, it's very immersive. I'm only 44% in but I'm pretty hooked so far, it's just an excellent book. I really love the story, it's very exciting. I think (view spoiler)[Bradamant is definitely up to something fishy and I don't like her. I'm dying to know why she's there. (hide spoiler)]

63% in, things are heating up! (view spoiler)[ The evil librarian has just tried to drown Irene and co inside a carriage and Kai is a dragon! I actually guessed he might be a while ago which is rare for me, I never usually see these things coming. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! I really enjoyed this, gave it 4.5 stars in the end.
(view spoiler)[ I liked the ending but I think I'm a little disappointed that Irene was sent back to that alt world, I was really looking forward to seeing other worlds in book 2. There's infinite possibilities and I really wanted to visit some weird and wacky worlds and see what they had to offer.

On the other hand, it will be cool to see what adventures are in store for her next. (hide spoiler)]

Re-reads are the best... I started doing a bunch of them in April, just doing Buddy Re-reads every time a book showed up on the schedule... since I've read over 200 books this year, mixing in re-reads have been great... I had a bit of a slump 18 months ago, and did a ton of re-reads early last year before joining some new groups, and they really helped...

I had a big slump a few months ago so I re-read the entire Mercy Thompson series, it really helped!

I've read it 2 years back and I'm surprised that I forgot so much. I find it hard to get into the story, but that can be just me and my reading slump.

Reading goes slow at the moment. I'm studying for my exams for Applied Psychology and work is very busy, but I'm catching up.

I love the worldbuilding: all the alternate worlds seems very interesting and I love Irene's scense of humor. I've read it before and there was something about Kaï, but I don't remember what it was.

Have you finished this yet? I really enjoyed this one, I need to buy book 2.

@Charlie: I'm reading it for the 2nd time, but I find it hard now to connect with the story. Maybe it's because I'm reading other books too. I'm halfway now. I allready have the 2nd book.

This was a re - read for me and the rating stays the same. The only thing I had, was that it was harder to connect with the story than the first time, but other than that it was a great read.
I keep thinking about the movies of The Librarian and wondered how a movie about these books must be.
It must be great to have such a job: traveling between alternates, hunting on books, read whatever you want and be the preserver of important books.
I loved the humor in this book with a sarcastic, dark twitch in it, sometimes.

I think that more answers will be given in the second book or so I hope. I don't believe that: (view spoiler)[Alberich is really banished from this alternate. I can't be that easy. I sure do hope that Irene and Kai wil not get romanticaly involved. What I ask myself about Kai is if he transforms into a real dragon or if he only has some features of one. I also get a sense of Doctor Who and I hope to get more information about their machineries. Sounds interesting! (hide spoiler)]
