I've read The Paris Wife and found Hadley's story almost unbearably poignant, although as it was written in her voice, parts were undoubtedly fictionalized into a memoir-like style. This version is written by a biographer who describes Hadley as the woman Ernest "never stopped loving." So we'll see. Hoping to catch a glimpse of others in their milieu such as the Fitzgeralds, Gerald and Sarah Murphy - immortalized in Amanda Vaill's "Everybody Was So Young" and whom Hemingway treated very shabbily, Dorothy Parker, Cole Porter, etc.

Having finished (quickly, an easy and interesting read), I'd recommend this book over The Paris Wife, which was a fictionalized version of the same story. The author does a fine job of substantiating her conclusions using Hadley and her correspondents' (including Ernest, who was in touch with her for the remainder of his life) own words. There is more complex depth revealed in both of their characters, and it was interesting to learn how she moved on with her life.

I've been wondering if this was worth the read as opposed to The Paris Wife. Going on my to-read list.
