Rachel | 14 comments I think most would agree that law enforcement should prioritize the responsibility of protecting the public, thus approaching reported assaults from the standpoint of acceptance of a victim’s statement. However, do you think it is understandable or fair for survivors to feel a sense of responsibility toward “protecting” future victims? Is there an obligation to report such crimes, even though the investigation/judicial process may be intense (understatement)?

Deb (deblyonsd) | 5 comments That’s a tough question. I’d like to think I’d be strong enough to report if I were sexually assaulted, which, I have not. I definitely see the value of trying to stop someone before they hurt someone else, but I can’t imagine trying to put any more stress onto anyone who has been so victimized. Perhaps someone more decisive than me will comment. Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Rachel.
