Important Things To Remember:

***There is no deadline to finish a book for a called category, however in order for a book to count you must have had at least 100 pages left of the book to read in order for said book to work for the category called.

**Because of MIA players in the past, with this challenge you must comment in your team's thread within a week of a new category getting called (unless it is a planned absence). Failure to do so twice in a row will result in your removal from the team."

Book Rules:

• Books must be at least 100 pages.
• Cookbooks, Picture books, Manga, Graphic Novels, Poetry books are not allowed for this challenge. Aside from that, any books over 100 pages count for the challenge.

Read all the rules here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Kellyn Roth (kellynrothauthor) | 195 comments Yay, so excited! I can't wait! :D

message 6: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Hey, team! I'm super happy about this challenge.

Okay, so the first category has been called: Horse (standalone)

What's everyone reading?

I'll be finishing Beneath a Prairie Moon by Kim Vogel Sawyer (a standalone book). It has 342 pages, and I am currently on page 146, which leaves 196 pages left to read. Should be done in a couple of days.

We may also be working on the free space. What will you read for that one?

I'll be finishing Daughter of the Ganges The Story of One Girl's Adoption and Her Return Journey to India by Asha Miró for that one. I'm only about fifty pages in, so there's definitely over 100 left to go.

Happy reading!

message 7: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (ksnapier) | 705 comments I just started Miller's Valley by Anna Quindlen . It is a stand alone and should go fast.
HUGS

message 8: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Kimberly, that cover is beautiful. I hope the story within is an enjoyable one!

Do you know yet which book you want to read for the FREE SPACE spot? We may read for that one at any time.

Hi Team! Excited for this challenge to start! :)

I'll read A Most Noble Heir by Susan Anne Mason for Horse.

I'm not sure yet what I'll read for the Free Space, since I'm reading a bunch of different books at the moment and all of them have more than 100 pages left. Whichever one I finish first I'll use for it.

message 10: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Megan, that sounds like a wonderful plan for the free space book. I really like the cover of the horse book you have chosen. Happy reading!

message 11: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Park (suezy) | 4 comments I'm reading War Horse. Not sure what to read for the other one

message 12: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (ksnapier) | 705 comments I may read Winter of the World. It will take me a while but I don't have to finish it in any hurry.
Are there two Kimberly's in this group?

message 13: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Park (suezy) | 4 comments Don't know

Just checked and there are 3 Kimberly's in the group, but you're the only one that signed up for this challenge...if that's why you asked. :)

message 15: by Kellyn (new)

Kellyn Roth (kellynrothauthor) | 195 comments Hmm, I'm thinking about using Bound by Victoria Lynn. I believe it would work, as it is a standalone.

message 16: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Sue, I loved the movie version of that book, but I haven't read the book yet. I'm interested to see what you think about it, once you're finished.

Kellyn, I hope you'll really enjoy that story. I did when I read it.

Great job figuring out your books for the first round, ladies! I hope they will all be fantastic. Happy reading!

message 17: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments So do we all read a horse book? Or a standalone? I’m confused.

message 18: by Andrea (last edited Mar 08, 2018 01:42PM) (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments All of us must read a book for the called categories (and the free space, which is uncalled). We have three options, and each participant may choose the option that works best for them.

For Horse (standalone), we may use:
1. a book with a horse on the cover
2. a book that is a standalone (not part of a series), or
3. a book whose title begins with S, for "standalone."

So the options could look like this:
1. War Horse (War Horse, #1) by Michael Morpurgo (horse on cover)
2. The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen (standalone)
3. Saving Amelie by Cathy Gohlke (begins with S)

message 19: by Megan, ☘I Lost My Shoe ☘ (new)

Megan (celtic_girl) | 6323 comments Mod
Also for option 1 is if the category called is in the title (e.g. War Horse or The Horse and His Boy).

Sue, I'm sorry but you aren't on this team. Do you want to signup to be a backup player?

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Park (suezy) | 4 comments Sure

message 22: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Megan, I had forgotten about that option. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

message 23: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments Does it matter if we end up reading the same book? Because I have an ARC copy of A Most Noble Heir. Or I have a few standalone books that I need to review, as well. Thank you for the help. I just want to make sure I have it right.

It doesn't matter. You all could choose to read the same book, if you wanted. :))

message 25: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments Awesome! It also helps me on another challenge lol! Thank you!

message 26: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Tiffany, I like that you are unafraid to ask questions until you understand how things work. Well done! Best wishes for all those review books too. I have several in my current reading list too.

message 27: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments I would hate to do something that ended up hurting our team, especially if it could be avoided by simply asking questions. I’m such a book addict that I’ve managed to sign up for way too many. Lol but now I have lots of great books to read. 😁

message 28: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments Oh how long are the rounds?

message 29: by Melanie, ✞Moderator, Avid Reader, & Blogger ✞ (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) | 9915 comments Mod
The rounds don't have a set "deadline", but new categories will be called every Thursday.

message 30: by Andrea (last edited Mar 09, 2018 10:59AM) (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments No worries, Tiffany. You're doing great.

Melanie, what are you expecting to see in our review thread when we post about our books? I was thinking something like this:

EXAMPLE --
Category: Horse
Book: War Horse (War Horse, #1) by Michael Morpurgo
How it works: horse on the cover and in title
Read by: Andrea
Page Count: 165
Rating: 4 stars
Review: (link would go here)

Am I missing anything? Thanks!

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments Gotcha, well I should be finished by tomorrow night. I’m really enjoying it so far.

message 34: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments That sounds great, Tiffany. You're really cruising through your first book for this challenge.

message 35: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments Thank you! I’m hoping to be able to fill at least most of these with my review books. My goal for the year was to read 130 books.

message 36: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Me too on that review-book thing. My goal for the whole year is 120 books, so we're close on that too. How fun! Which books are you most looking forward to this year? I'm eager to read these (and others):

When the Nile Runs Red by DiAnn Mills Things I Never Told You by Beth K. Vogt A Light on the Hill (Cities of Refuge, #1) by Connilyn Cossette The Lost Castle (The Lost Castle #1) by Kristy Cambron The Healer (O'Malley, #5) by Dee Henderson The Weaver's Daughter by Sarah E. Ladd A Refuge Assured by Jocelyn Green

I am so looking forward to reading The Lost Castle and Things I Never Told You!

Ahhh! The Lacemaker is a must-read for me! I love her books. :D

message 42: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I'm hesitant about Frantz's books. I've enjoyed one out of the three I've read. However, that one is on my list from NetGalley.

Tiffany, that list of books looks really good. I hope you enjoy all of them!!

message 43: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments I’ve been lucky with her books. I’ve only read her Ballantyne Legacy series, so far, but I really enjoyed those.

message 44: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments The one I loved was the first of hers I had ever read: The Frontiersman's Daughter.

message 45: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments That one is on my list to try.

message 46: by Kellyn (new)

Kellyn Roth (kellynrothauthor) | 195 comments I have a lot of review copies, too. Working on 'em, though!

message 47: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Great job, Kell! Are there any particular ones you're especially looking forward to out of the bunch?

message 48: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments I’m so weak... I requested more on Netgalley last night. Lol

message 49: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Know that feeling well, girl. A good thing about that is this: You've just increased your odds of having a book available for more categories in our game. :)

message 50: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Murphy (tiffers919) | 989 comments This is true! I do have a good selection
