With college inevitably approaching and every high school student attempting to prepare to even get a slight edge over others in an increasingly competitive environment, everyone needs something to separate themselves from the general crowd in addition to create and maintain exceptionally high grades and connections. Even though “College Hacks” by Keith Bradford is not the book I was hoping it would be, the book brought several interesting ideas to the table that would make any college student happy with their purchase (that purchase being this book).
The book starts of simple and stays that way for the entirety of the book, seemingly any college “tip and trick” is into 10 different college related topics. These chapters range from technology, food nutrition, to party tips related to alcohol. Each page is remarkably different and doesn’t really have any normal book structure and simply lists four tips on each page until the chapter ends, with the occasional list or two sprinkled in between each chapter.
However, as mentioned before, the fact that the book has no structure could make readers question whether quick google searches would be able to get the same amount of material without costing five dollars (how much I purchased this book for). Hell, that begs the question whether Keith did only random internet searches for three to four hours and took what he felt were the best ones on Answers.com.
But that flaw is truly speculation, and many of the tips contained with in the book very well could help the average student budget wise, socially, or studying. The biggest strength of this book would be most certainly is it is extremely easy to both follow and understand. I would advise to have a word or google document to write anything that may seem even remotely useful. In general, I’m very happy with the tip list I created, and if this book had more of a structure, I would almost consider this book truly one of a kind. So...
Final Verdict?: Difficulty: 1/10 (Would have this at a 0 if I could rate the difficulty lower :P) Personal Rating: 8/10
I honestly needed this book and it is safe to say that I’m fairly biased in this review due to college being right around the corner for me. But would highly recommend this to virtually any senior, as this book attempts to provide for the biggest audience by listing tips that any college student will love to remember and potentially utilize this in the future.
