Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Sam's personality seems to undergo a change and he is more naive and reckless. Did this make sense to you? Were you surprised when he was killed?

Sam’s focus changed now that his feelings were reciprocated by Celaena and he desperately needed to get her away from Rifthold. He rightly knew that Arobynn still had a hold on her and that made him careless. When he accepted an assignment that no one else would do, I knew it was a setup.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments I also thought that he was trying to prove his worth to Celaena as if to justify her feelings for him. Underneath everything, he knew she was the better assassin and it led to his recklessness. I wasn't at all surprised that he was killed and I knew he would be in the last novella.

I thought the same thing, too, Lauren. She had paid off his debt and was paying most of their bills. He had everything to prove and accepted this assignment rashly.

Melissa (melissasd) | 194 comments It did not surprise me. Sam is now free and on his own to do what he wants. He still feels like he needs to prove himself to Caleana. I was not surprised by his death. The job was doomed from the start.
