When Frank learns of Sarah’s dinner with Richard, he shows signs of jealousy. Sarah then experiences a range of emotions after Frank refers to her as beautiful. In moments, her view of her relationship with him is transformed. Why is it that when someone doesn’t believe a person sees them in that way they don’t seem to even explore their own attraction?

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments Maybe it's safer? If you don't think the other person feels the same way then there's no need to more closely examine your own feelings about them...because if you did then you'd have to face the possibility that your feelings aren't reciprocated...and that would hurt. But if you stick to the "we're just friends" approach then no harm, no foul.

You make a great point, Veronica. Underneath all that is fear of rejection so why go there. It takes a lot of self confidence to look at those feelings honestly.

Good point.

It's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I agree...it's just too scary to put yourself out there like that without some idea the sentiment will be reciprocated. Plus there is so much going against Frank and Sarah already. She has put herself into the old widowed category. Filed away the identity she had before she met Tom into some rusty bucket because she couldn't see herself with anyone but Tom since he came into her life. So for her to realize she is still desirable is a big step in her moving on from Tom.

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments Also a good point, Christine. I think Sarah figured that romantic love was a thing of the past for her, something that she could only ever experience with Tom. Now she's starting to open up to new possibilities...or at least being aware that they might exist.
