HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments Nice to see you back. And I have to admit that ukulele is way more fun than I thought it would be.

message 7: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Sadly, I haven't had time to play in... many months. I haven't been very good at prioritizing things lately, but I'm working on that. Hence my return. :) It's good to be back.

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Helloooo! :D

Wow. Book 2 in the can and started a third. If I keep this up, I might actually get some reading done! LOL

LOL!

Too bad this isn't yesterday, we could look for a WSW read.

message 15: by Christa, The Renewed (last edited Apr 16, 2018 12:48PM) (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments You know, there's another Wednesday coming up soon. We could maybe try it...

In completely unrelated news...

I recently "upgraded" from my Paperwhite to a Voyage. Even though it's the reason I did so, I'm still blown away by how much the lack of a inner bezel improves things for me. I'm no longer distracted by bits of dust and blanket fuzz (I read in bed, ya know) in the corners, because there are no corners for any of that to get trapped in! It's the little things.

My Voyage and Fire now have matching covers in this design, Galaxy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06...

And, last but not least... I always eschewed the fancy home page view on my Kindles, in favor of the book list. Then last night I turned it on out of curiosity and realized something. The section of the home page that has my Wishlist leads me to a book list of all the books I have on any Amazon wishlist - and the ones that are in Kindle Unlimited say so right in the list. I recently restarted KU because there are a lot of books in there I wanna read, and it all just got so much easier. I'm lazy, so this matters.

:D

To get to something actually important in this rambling update, I'm still reading nightly. Yay!

message 16: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I'm so glad you're reading again! :D

And I dream of a Voyage, but I can't get myself to upgrade as long as the old one still works... :(

message 17: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Well, it helped that (in the US, at least) Amazon has a no-interest installment plan available with 5 monthly payments. I had almost purchased a Voyage when I bought my Paperwhite two years ago, but I guess I was just delaying the inevitable.

I'm glad I'm reading again, too. I'm trying not to get hung up on numbers, and just READ. LOL I'm going to Florida next week (leave this Saturday) so I should get some good reading time in then too.

yaaaay!

I've been reading on my tablet. It's a terrible thing (backlighting) but so easy. My poor kobo is getting no love. And it has a purple cover!

message 19: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments I read on my Fire for a while, but I eventually found that I was reading in shorter sessions because of it. My eyes get all blinky and it distracts me. When I use my computer or tablet for various activities, I'm looking away often, whereas when I'm reading a book, my eyes are glued to it.

I envy those who don't have eye fatigue reading on tablets / phones. I do still read magazines and graphics-heavy stuff on the Fire, though.

message 20: by HomeInMyShoes (last edited Apr 16, 2018 03:17PM) (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I read on my phone, but that's because library lending on Kindle in Canada is useless. Plus the fact that Overdrive is about 1/10th of the electronic reading material I can get through my library. I use the eBooks as filler reading material and most of what i read is paper.

paper: 33
electronic: 13 -> Hoopla: 4, Cloud: 5, Kindle: 2, Overdrive: 1; audio: 1

So only 1/13 books is from Overdrive, although I'm reading one now, so 2/14

Overdrive doesn't overlap with my reading habits much which makes the whole eReader concept pretty useless unless it supports multiple vendors. Or I'm doing a bunch of work.

message 21: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments I finally finished the book I've been trying to read all week. :D I don't read a ton of non-fiction, but I'm glad I grabbed that one at the library. Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean

Was a great read, and especially appropriate to read while I'm in Florida. :)

Next up, I'm tackling one of my many in-progress series by starting book #2 in Wayward Pines.

message 22: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Yay! And have fun in Wayward Pines. I did :)

message 23: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I've got Wayward Pines, maybe I should get around to reading it! :D

Orlok | 555 comments DoodlePanda wrote: "I've got Wayward Pines, maybe I should get around to reading it! :D"

I think you might enjoy it. It's a real "what the hell is going on?", and I guarantee you won't guess the reveal (unless you've already seen the TV series).

message 25: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I have not seen it, and the book sounds really interesting... I have a few books I want to read next, but I think this one will be high on the list now :D

message 26: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Cool. It's a quick read, too.

message 27: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Yeah, I enjoyed it so much that I ended up finishing Wayward Pines #2 and going straight into #3. :D

Be interested to hear what you think of #3.

message 29: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments So far I'm liking it! I like how he's tying certain people's past motivations into current events.

message 30: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments *the sound of Wayward pines slowly creeping up the to-be-read list*

LOL Do it!

message 32: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Okay, so The Last Town certainly took an interesting turn. S'all I'm saying about that. LOL I really enjoyed it. It was almost 5 stars. Almost.

Because of the way it ended, I'm really hoping Crouch does more with this at some point.

message 33: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments Agreed. It is a great series.

message 34: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments I allowed myself one DNF for Bingo (changed a Mega-Mix category to "DNFed it SO Hard") and I already used it this morning for Breed. LOL

I'm not shelving it as read so I'm not counting it toward my GR count.

O_O

*runs*

Not for me, lol.

message 36: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Updated, two more books read for a total of 8 so far. Not too bad for a month! :)

message 37: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Resident Book Pusher (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 3289 comments GOod Job!!

message 38: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Thanks! :) I'm hoping to keep the momentum going.

message 39: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments Well done! I'm so happy for you that your back into reading! :D

message 40: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Thank you! I'm very happy about it too. Means a bit more time management on my part, but it's working so far. :D

message 41: by Orlok (new)

Orlok | 555 comments About time you got some score on the Bingo spreadsheet :P

message 42: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Orlok wrote: "About time you got some score on the Bingo spreadsheet :P"

Actually, I haven't yet. I've managed to have 100% rate on being able to use everything I've read so far, but nothing has made a bingo. Yet. Soon, maybe? LOL

message 43: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments I think 11-13 books is what it took modt people. Except Doodlepanda who got the first one in five books.

message 44: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Finished The Collapsing Empire. I really wish I'd known the next book isn't out yet. Dammit. LOL

message 45: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I hate when I start a series, and it turns out the other books arent out yet :(

message 46: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes | 2759 comments ^Yep. How about a series where there's eight books out, but only four have been translated? And those are numbers 1, 2, 3 and 7?

So weird. But I'm up to date as far as I'm concerned.

message 47: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 1226 comments I had that problem with audible once, I started listening to a series and one random book in the middle didnt have whispersync audio... didnt make any sense to me

message 48: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments I remember that, Doodles. You and I were chatting while you were trying to get an answer from the customer service people. That was nuts.

Oh yea thats right! I was so frustrated xD

message 50: by Christa, The Renewed (new)

Christa (christaw) | 1457 comments Up to 12 read, working on the 13th. It was going to be Doctor Orient but I DNFd it and moved on to Redemption Song. May go back to it later.
