Will Kilada | 6 comments 1st to Die by James Patterson was one of my favorite books. It had Crime and drama, but most importantly, it had mystery. The plot of the book is that a mad man is traveling around the Cleveland and San Francisco, while killing newly wedded couples. The main character Lindsay, is a detective on the case. She teams up with a news reporter, a doctor, and a lawyer to try and catch him. What I loved most about the book was the dramatic irony. The audience gets to read from the killer’s perspective and learn about his life, while also switching back to Lindsay’s point of view and watching the Women’s Murder Club attempt to solve the murders. The book is dark at points, especially when James Patterson describes the murders in horrific detail. One thing I did not enjoy in the book was the plot. Although the plot is clear originally, to catch the murderer, it quickly gets side tracked by Lindsay’s personal issues, which in my opinion take up too much of the book. 1st To Die was the first book I read in Beyond the Classics, and it definitely helped me get back into reading. It showed me that books can be so suspenseful and intriguing, I would actually be eager to read the next day. James Patterson does a terrific job keeping the reader interested throughout the book and describing I would recommended this book to everyone that enjoys crime solving films and books.
