Please use this discussion to suggest possible Buddy Reads. Anyone interested in participating should indicate such. You'll need to agree on the book(s) and reading pace. You can then open a discussion in this folder: Include the title of the book, the start and end dates of your buddy read. Please be sure to mark spoilers!

D.L. Would anyone be interested in discussing Stranger with My Face by Lois Duncan? It's a YA mystery that sounds so intriguing. We could read it in July or August even. Please let me know if anyone is interested :)

Hi D.L., did you ever read this one? The author's name sounded familiar, so I looked at her list, and I think I read Summer of Fear when I was a kid.

fictional Hima (fictionalhima) Hi guys! I was planning on reading: every vow you break by Peter Swanson. I’d love to read and discuss it with someone so who’s up for a buddy read?

message 9: by Jodie (new)

Jodie Rennie (jodierennie) Hi! I am new to the group and love mysteries and psychological thrillers. I’m looking for a buddy read. Any one looking to read with a partner? I’m open on title and dates.

James Tidd | 230 comments Hi, I am hoping to find a reading partner for Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. I have seen the TV adaptation which was superb. I have read 3 chapters of the book, which has been good thus far. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Hi! If anyone is looking for some good fall/winter reads, check out the Collection Group Reads thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

The current collection theme was inspired by my interest in reading authors of ethnicities and countries of origin different than my own, and different from those of most mystery authors that I have read over the years. Over the last year or so, I've read several novels by Walter Mosley, Steven Graham Jones, and Keigo Higashino, to great enjoyment. The change in perspective was striking and rather wonderful.

Come take a look at the reads scheduled for the next few months, and join us!

Two Envelopes And A Phone Here are 5 books I already own, that I would be happy to Buddy Read with someone:

Raven Black by Ann Cleeves
Natchez Burning by Greg Iles (long!)
The Red House Mystery by A. A. Milne
The Chestnut Man by Soren Sveistrup (probably not for the faint of heart)
Deadline at Dawn by Cornell Woolrich

Here are 5 more books that I would be just as happy to Buddy Read with someone...but they are weirder choices, in terms of popularity, possibly availability and/or price, and I'm just throwing them out there so I'm going beyond obvious choices:

The Old Woman with the Knife by Byeong-mo Gu
Death on Gokumon Island by Seishi Yokomizo
Dancers in Mourning by Margery Allingham
The Leavenworth Case by Anna Katharine Green
Mildred Pierce by James M. Cain

Okay. Great! I have it already, so it's whenever. But, I would say, I have just started The Turquoise Shop and would prefer to keep going with that - at my speed, I would be done, and be ready for a next book as of, ohhh, Friday the 16th. But then, on the other hand - I'm also fine pushing it off to whatever is convenient for you - for example, if you're thinking of October, that's fine too.

Your thoughts on a start date?...

message 23: by Monika (new)

Monika Leubner Depends when I get it I'm hoping ideally someone fills it tonight for Thursday delivery if not then not till Tuesday.

Two Envelopes And A Phone Monika wrote: "Depends when I get it I'm hoping ideally someone fills it tonight for Thursday delivery if not then not till Tuesday."

Okay. I'll see where we stand Thursday-Friday-ish, I guess. But I'll keep in mind that early next week might be best.

message 25: by Monika (new)

Monika Leubner Yeah I'm gonna see what places have it on audio but physical book not till next week

message 26: by Monika (new)

Monika Leubner okay I can get the ebook of it for now

Two Envelopes And A Phone Monika wrote: "okay I can get the ebook of it for now"

Okay, if that's goin' on, thoughts on a start day, or we won't set that just yet?

message 28: by Monika (new)

Monika Leubner hmm not sure on tonight or tomorrow Friday I can try

Two Envelopes And A Phone Monika wrote: "hmm not sure on tonight or tomorrow Friday I can try"

Cool, okay, I'll check in Friday, which as I say, is pretty much when I'll be choosing a next book. And if that's not great, we got weeks and weeks of Halloween lead-up for a creepy-looking book like this one. Glad I could find a Buddy Read, should be fun.

message 30: by Monika (new)

Monika Leubner Yeah I can't wait this one looks super good

So I didn't get too much of The Chestnut Man done, I have a lot of other books reads to read so.. I don't think I can keep up with it.

No worries. The fact is, I just finished it. This process has taught me that though my heart was in the right place, I’m probably not a good candidate for buddy reads. I read too fast, and don’t know how to socialize properly, and keep in touch.

The book is great! When you get to it, I hope you love it as much as I did. So, at least I bumped a terrific Crime novel ahead in the schedule.

Do we want to set up a separate place to discuss Death on the Nile as we read it? Might make it easier to follow the discussion.

I will be happy to read Death on the Nile with both of you! I definitely think that it would be easier to set it up at a separate place, Sheri. Is that cool with you alexw?

I love Greg Isles, Jonathon Kellerman, Patricia Cornwall, Ruth Ware…just to name some widely known authors. I don’t want to read James Patterson, but I promise I am open to most anything else! 😃

Hi Lisa! I would like to read The PMS Murder, at any time. I know you like thrillers a lot, but this book is very good.
