I would like to nominate:
White Teeth by Zadie Smith or
Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson or
My Accidental Jihad by Krista Bremer or
The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander
Is nominating four books just too terribly greedy?

The poll results stated that members are most in favour of a single voter's choice monthly selection paired with a selection from a single author for the duration of the year. Alexa and I talked it out and think that the rest of 2014 will look like this: monthly selections picked by voters for Sept, Oct, Nov and Dec, and the completion of our classics series with Imagining Characters: Six Conversations About Women Writers: Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, George Eliot, Willa Cather, Iris Murdoch, and Toni Morrison for the rest of the year. Next month's monthly memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail will be the last.
I'll post a poll with the noms from this thread for September, and post a separate poll for October's selection, we thought it would be fun to do "themed" nominations for monthly voter's choice, so I'm going to pick the female authors off the BBC 100 Books to Read Before You Die list and we can vote on which one we most want to read!

The winner of the September poll is (drum roll) White Teeth! Now it's time to go vote for the October book. There are lots of great choices there - go take a look!
For our October read, we currently have I Capture the Castle in a slight lead over The God of Small Things followed by Emma, Wuthering Heights, Rebecca, and Gone with the Wind in a 4-way tie. Come one and all and vote for your favorite. If your first choice isn't in the lead, perhaps you might want to put your weight behind your second choice? Come help choose next month's read!
