Jason Campbell | 9 comments I read this book in 1998 or 1999. I think there was princess on the verge of receiving something, and I think there was either a unicorn in the story and/or the title. I recall the word 'moonflow' being used in the story. It's not Stephen Donaldson's Daughter of Regals short story.

Jason ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 35 where fewer eyes will see it.
Good luck!

Elizabeth | 13 comments Perhaps it's The Unicorn Chronicles?

Bridget (oobridgetoo) | 171 comments Maybe Pegasus by Robin McKinley. This one may not be old enough though. 😉

Jessica (jessdaygeorge) | 191 comments My first thought was also Pegasus, because it starts with the princess being paired with her pegasus (as all members of the royal family are) on her birthday. But it was published in 2010 . . .

asha | 29 comments Was the story intended for a specific age group?

message 11: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5379 comments Also The Fattening Hut, Hidden Warrior, and Triad. They’re probably too late.

message 12: by Jason (new)

Jason Campbell | 9 comments Thanks for the suggestions, but it was none of those.

message 13: by Gillian (new)

Gillian | 342 comments She's not a princess, but maybe the Unicorn series by Tanith Lee? This is the first book: Black Unicorn.

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather | 14 comments The Last Unicorn? She turns into a princess.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5379 comments Jason , do you think moonflow was one word or two?

Yes

Jason Campbell | 9 comments I'm certain the author was female.

Tris Crescent | 87 comments Maybe The Unicorn’s Secret series by Kathleen Duey? Book 1 is “Moonsilver.”

El | 502 comments Moonsilver for Tris's suggestion.

The rest of the series is found here.

There is a list for Menstruation and PMS in Fiction. Not sure if your book is on it, though.

I still would love to know, but I've come to the conclusion that, unless I see the cover, I'll never will.

message 27: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Freedom (neigh) | 249 comments Could it be The Road to Balinor? It's mostly about a princess, with amnesia, living on a horse farm with her foster parents and a unicorn disguised as a horse. There's also a little bit about a herd of unicorns.

message 28: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments A Quest Of Love mentions "moonflow," but I don't know if there are unicorns.

message 29: by Rosa (new)

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5379 comments Yea or nay, Jason?

message 30: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 13 comments How about The Little White Horse? This has a unicorn on the cover and in the story. I don't recall the word 'moonflow' to be in there, but very often the word 'Moonacre' is used.
It is not about a princess, but it is about a young lady who is sent to a huge manor after her parents died. I believe she was the last girl in their familytree to have to solve something in order to prevent some kind of curse that'll set at a certain date.

message 31: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 13 comments I was wondering if one of those above is actually the book your talking about? You have made me curious.

message 32: by Adele (new)

Adele | 1420 comments I am currently reading Anne Bishop's latest and it reminded me that menstrual flow, referred to as "moontime", is significant in the Black Jewels world. Way back in 1999 there was Heir to the Shadows when Janelle was coming of age, deciding whether to make her offering to the darkness and start ruling as queen. And there are definitely unicorns in this book.

message 33: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Maybe we should add the "moonflow" detail to the header?

Jason, are you still looking for this book or did you find it?

message 35: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments The Seven Hills of Paradise has a princess and a few mentions of "moon flow."

The Archer King also mentions "moon flow" and a unicorn, but it was first published in 2000.

Jason, I copied some book details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it.

Is this book for teens or adults?

What does moonflow refer to?

A long shot - The Televisionary Oracle by Rob Brezsny?

Quotes from the book:
- "She's large bloomer," the Pomegranate Grail's muckamucks clucked to themselves when their storied princess reached her fourteenth birthday without so much as a clot of the moon-flow.
- Maybe I should tell you about the first time Vimala tenderly manipulated me into guzzling two large cups of noxious tea brewed from pennyroyal and false unicorn root.

All of the words: moonflow princess | Content: books | English | 1960-2000
