Great list! I so loved Watership Down! And Dracula is one of my favorites. I've read it three times. Good luck!

Stina (stinalyn) | 11 comments I'm hoping to finish off at least The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and The Cuckoo's Calling this weekend. That may be all I can hope for, since GenreLand book club meets Saturday night and Sunday I'm driving down to Denver for VE Schwab's Vengeful tour. Though I suppose if her signing line is long, I'll have a copy of Vengeful handy to occupy myself with. :-)

This is my first time reading both! I'm almost done listening to Watership Down. I was not expecting it would be this intense! lol. I've already gone grocery shopping so I plan to sit on the couch and finish reading The Brilliant Death.

message 6: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 565 comments I finished The Brilliant Death and it's a crisp, sunny day so I'm taking Virgil Wander outside with me!

message 7: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 11 comments And I have already deviated from my plan. I listened to some more of Children of Time and devoured V.E. Schwab's Warm Up, which is a prequel to Vicious.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 565 comments I finished listening to Watership Down yesterday.

I read chunks of Virgil Wander and Always Look on the Bright Side of Life: A Sortabiography. Focusing on them today.

And I realized I also have to read Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Saga, Vol. 2 today for Dewey's Bingo game!

I don't think I'll be finishing Dracula today! lol

Dracula will be postponed until November so I can focus on King! Even though it would obviously be perfect for an October read. lol

Annnnd this morning I have officially started Kingtober with Mr. Mercedes audio!

Cass (bookishcass) | 1 comments I will be reading Digital Fortress by Dan Brown for this readathon. While it is not a horror genre, it is a mystery and thriller novel. Digital Fortress by Dan Brown

message 19: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 565 comments I have also started reading Different Seasons on Libby and will be starting my paperback of The Waste Lands when I get home from work.

message 21: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 54 comments First two books finished:
Only the Lucky (Kate Burkholder, #8.5) by Linda Castillo
The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King

Current read:
The Book of the Unwinding (Witches of New Orleans #2) by J.D. Horn

Yay, Kelley! Great job. I love the Gunslinger. Sadly, I've only made it to book three of the series, but hope to continue on in the future. So many books, so little time.

Oh you have to get them back to the top of your TBR! I would go back and reread the previous books each time a new one came out. Well up until books 5-7 came out anyhow. Since they came out back to back over a few months, I only reread up through book 4. I didn't need to worry about refreshing my memory with the last three so close together. One of my favorite things about this series though is that the Dark Tower world is connected to sooo many of King's books! Some are obviously connected (Insomnia, Hearts in Atlantis, Black House), but others have loose connections (Dolores Claiborne, Rose Madder). I need to re-find the list of connected books. Also in the front of most of his books, where they list all of his works, they notate which ones are linked to The Dark Tower.

I have Watership Down in audio also. Though I still have never read the book. I remember watching the animated movie years and years ago. the Black Prince Rabbit terrified me! I had nightmares for a LONG time afterwards that the Black Prince Rabbit was going to come get me. Because of his role in the story and I was so young I still didn't fully understand death, I believed he was WHY the rabbits died. It took me a long time to understand he didn't cause the deaths.

It's a dark book no matter what age! I can't believe it was directed at children, holy cow. I've never seen the cartoon movie and I think Netflix is remaking it sometime soon?

They are? I hadn't heard that! I will have to watch it. Now that I'm sooo much older and I'm not afraid of the black rabbit anymore. LOL

It's supposed to be on Netflix in "late 2018." A 4-part miniseries. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5670764/

message 34: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 54 comments Two more books finished today. One is borderline qualifying, but I'm counting it. :-)

Batman Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2) by Marie Lu - this is the borderline book since it's sort of a thriller, but not quite.

The Book of the Unwinding (Witches of New Orleans #2) by J.D. Horn - JD Horn became a fast favorite of mine with his Witches of Savannah trilogy a few years ago. Great spooky stories.

I did finish reading The Body last night and now I'm on the last story of Different Seasons, The Breathing Method.

A Stephen King Marathon! I read Different Seasons YEARS ago so don't remember very much about it. Joyland I read a few years ago and really liked. And End of Watch I read as soon as my library got it in audio after it was released. :-)

message 47: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 54 comments I've read quite a few short stories over the last couple days. All of these were whispersync ready so I went back and forth between ebook and audio as necessary. If you are looking for some really good short horror/thrillers, the Dark Corners collection from Amazon Originals is good. They are also free to borrow for Prime members.

Hannah-Beast (Dark Corners collection) by Jennifer McMahon
The Sleep Tight Motel (Dark Corners collection) by Lisa Unger
There's a Giant Trapdoor Spider Under Your Bed (Dark Corners collection) by Edgar Cantero
Miao Dao (Dark Corners collection) by Joyce Carol Oates
The Tangled Woods (Dark Corners collection) by Emily Raboteau
The Remedy (Dark Corners collection) by Adam Haslett

Currently reading:
Oak Avenue (Dark Corners collection) by Brandi Reeds eBook and audio
Roses of May (The Collector, #2) by Dot Hutchison on my Kindle
Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1) by Justina Ireland in audio in the car
