Ugh! There was very little in this book to like. And the writing was boring, with lengthy descriptions of the same thing over and over.
While Richard Rahl can be a bit full of himself with his lectures on rational thought and his version of Objectivism, he is still the engaging and interesting central character of the Sword of Truth series, and he was missing in action throughout the bulk of this book. The story instead focuses on Oba, a disgusting sadist and half-brother to Richard, and Jennsen, an earnest but confused half-sister to both Richard and Oba. I could easily have done without Oba’s storyline; even his role in baiting Richard to the final confrontation could have happened another way. Like another half-brother, Drefan, his sadism and violence was gratuitous. Jennsen’s storyline was better; too drawn out, but more interesting and varied.
What I really want to know is how Zedd and Adie figures out how to protect the Wizard’s Keep and defeat Jagang’s army.
