Oryx and Crake won the poll by 1 vote! I'm really glad that this book won, because I had already planned to read it and I have the library copy on my kindle now. This will be my first time reading this book. (Side note, did you know that this is book 1 in a trilogy?)

Have you read this before? Have you read any other Margaret Atwood books? Have you watched any of the TV shows based on her books that are popular right now?
I will post more questions about the book as we read and dive a little bit deeper into this book.

OK. so I posted early, but we ended up with the same book so I'm leaving my first post there. This is my first time doing this and I was a bit excited to get going as we were already a bit behind!!
Ok, everybody get to reading!! Those dishes can wait, at least that's what I try to tell myself...

Colleen (miniguinea73) So excited about this one!

How is everyone liking the book so far? I had 2 books in my other book club so I plan on starting it tomorrow after that book club meeting. What can I say, I just love to read.

Frau Spätzle (soenne) I'm still trying to finish various other books and might have to postpone this until December. Giving my best though. November is one crazy month...

Colleen (miniguinea73) I plan on starting after the holiday

Has anyone finished the book yet? Im still reading it.

Elba (elbamaria) | 99 comments Finished reading Oryx and Crake. I think it is a very thought provoking book. It’s dark and horrible at times, but classic Atwood. I can see Rory and Jess reading it. Paris would hate it and she would lead an iteresting discussion. Can’t wait to hear what you all thought. Cheers

Colleen (miniguinea73) Starting this Thursday. It’s my plane book for this week’s flight!

Awesome. I have to admit I'm not finished with it yet. I was really excited to read it and then I got stuck reading an e-book that is really good, but I didn't realize it was so long. Americanah. I would recommend it for sure, but it is thought provoking and is taking me a while to digest it all.
I hope to start after my birthday (Friday)

I love the fact that you mentioned Paris in your comment!
Are you planning on reading the 2nd book in the series?

Frau Spätzle (soenne) I've also finally started reading it, but having a hard time - so far I find it rather boring and the main character seems just so unrelatable. Anyone else having trouble getting into the book?

I finally finished the book. I really liked it once I got into the story. It took a few chapters for me to figure out what was going on. I will be reading the next one.
I agree that Paris would hate this book. I could see Jess reading it and therefor Rory as well.
I think part of the appeal of snowman is that he doesn't relate to the reader because he is in between worlds almost in every sense.

Colleen (miniguinea73) I'm nearly finished. It started a bit slow but now I don't want to put it down. Handmaid's Tale is still my favorite, but this is very good and classic Atwood.

Frau Spätzle (soenne) Finished it today! Really liked even if it was a tough start. I'm not a great fan for open endings, but I felt it wasn't so bad because you at least know what the hell is going on by the end. :D

Do you plan on reading the next one?

Frau Spätzle (soenne) Stephanie wrote: "Do you plan on reading the next one?"

Good question! I'm not really sure I liked it enough to put the whole series on my ever-growing to-read list. I might come back to it once I feel like it, though. But for now, I think I'll pass. What about you?

message 18: by Elba (new) - rated it 4 stars

Elba (elbamaria) | 99 comments I added the next one in the series to my 2019 reading list. I am curious...

Maybe. I like it but like you Im not sure its good enough to replace something else I want to read yet.

Colleen (miniguinea73) Finished and I am definitely reading the second one. Margaret Atwood is one of my favorite authors. Handmaid’s Tale is my fave. This one wasn’t as good but I enjoyed it.
