Jane went through a lot before her death. Do you think she had actually changed and was ready to leave her husband?

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 694 comments I would like to think so but I'm not sure how feasible it was for a woman to leave her husband back then. Would she lose her music students because of the stigma/scandal and, if so, then how would she support herself?

She seemed to have gathered some inner strength. I’m not sure how it would have manifested itself if she had lived but I think her relationship with her husband would have changed. After all, she was responsible for his livelihood.

Joanna | 139 comments I'm not sure if she would have left him, but I do believe she would allowed herself love another.

I think so, too, Joanna.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 2240 comments Given the time period and her social class, I have my doubts. Women put up with a lot in those days for the supposed security of their marriages.

Good point, Lauren. We can’t apply a modern lens to her attitude.
