Personal challenge threads

- Save anything you want to save, for example by posting your end-of-year results in the official challenge threads
- Edit the thread yourself by clearing the text from the old posts
- Don't delete the old posts, instead reuse them so we don't get a flurry of activity for each new post
- If you want to start a new thread instead, add a delete request to the old one (or in this thread with a link) when you've copied over everything you want to save, and if possible, also edit the thread title to include the word "delete"
- When starting a new thread, try to add most of the posts you think you'll be needing in one go, so that it won't generate as many notifications
- If you need help from mods, ask here!
Yes, for those who don't like the flood, perhaps turn off notifications for the weekend lol.
We've been really happy with how this worked out. It seems like people liked having a place they could make notes to themselves and we're immensely grateful that no one took to spamming in their thread. I know you're all amazingly considerate but it's so pleasant to have it proven time and time again.
Thank you all for another wonderful year, here's to an even better 2019!

think of it as housecleaning like I'm trying to do with my TBR pile

Do you mean all including your own? In that case it might make more sense to start a new thread, and I'll delete the old. Let me know when you've copied over what you want to save, in fact just post a new message in the thread to be deleted saying something like "delete this thread".

We thought most people would want to have the current stuff at the beginning, that's why we suggested editing. But the contents of the threads are totally up to the thread starter! As we can see with 2018 threads, there are many different ways people are choosing to keep track of their stuff.
We decided to keep the rules as simple as possible, that's why we haven't added all possible scenarios. The important things are:
- one thread per person (so if it's easier to start a new one, that's fine, but we'll delete the old one)
- try to keep adding of posts to a minimum, and add in batches when possible
The rest is up to you!

Done!

I stole that idea from a friend in a different group who does all of her challenge posts that way. It's super helpful for keeping track of things behind the scenes, as it were.

Confirming Allison's comment, personal challenge threads are in the "SciFi and Fantasy Book Challenge" folder.

I'm going to start a fresh challenge thread for the new year. (I copied all my posts into a thread in my secret group)

OH MY GOD!!! I'm so sorry!! I even almost asked if you were sure, but then I saw the first few posts were still from 2018, so I figured you must have made a similarly-named thread. Gosh, Sarah, I apologize. D:
The new Sarah's Rule will be confirmation before any permanent deletion of challenge threads :(
I just went through all the tabs Google would allow me to reopen (sometimes you can get GR to do weird things when you do that--I heartily recommend trying that if you lost anything permanently!!) and I can't get to it :(

Okay, good, I was wondering if I could thwart you twice!
But seriously, even if you're cool with it (and thank you for being gracious!) that's definitely not something I want to risk in the future. So, lesson learned, and I'm sorry you were the guinea pig. <3

Could a mod please delete Mike's Challenges: 2019 [¡discussion welcome!], a.k.a. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

If you have lots of comments in your old thread, or for any other reason want it removed, please do what's suggested in msg #2, and then also post about it here. We'll make super extra sure to delete the correct thread!

Anna, just the comments would be great.

Done!
Comments (by other people) deleted, you can delete the rest yourself if you don't need to reuse them.
Allison and future Anna, do not delete Bobby's thread! :D
- Each member gets one thread for all group challenges, not one thread per challenge
- Any updates you'd like to share with the group and questions for mods are to be made in the official challenge threads
- You can name it whatever you'd like as long as it's not graphic or rude, and contains your name in the title
- The name of your thread should include whether or not you'd like to allow people to comment on your thread
- Personal challenge threads will not be moderated, so please message the mods if an issue occurs
- Please try to edit your posts rather than create new ones, and keep new posts periodic (i.e. no more frequent than monthly) so that we don't fill the notifications with personal challenge updates
Have fun and good luck!!
How to start a new thread
- Go to the folder called SciFi and Fantasy Book Challenge
- In the top right corner, click on "new topic" (desktop) or + (app)
