Man Booker Prize: Milkman, by Anna Burns
Man Booker International Prize: Flights, by Olga Tokarczuk
PEN/Faulkner Award: Improvement, by Joan Silber
PEN International Award: Chemistry: A Novel, by Weike Wang
National Book Award: The Friend, Sigrid Nunez
National Book Award: The New Negro: The Life Of Alain Locke, by Jeffrey C. Stewart
Lambda Literary Award: Hunger, by Roxane Gay

Some of these are even by women of color!

Jenny (sapphicbookdragon) | 115 comments I read that Bluebird Bluebird by Attica Locke won some award, and she's a WOC.. I'll probably go for that one. Stone Sky is tempting, but I haven't read the rest of the trilogy yet

I think that won last year, for 2017, though. It is very good, though!

Oooh, that's great news! I have that on hold from the library and it looks really good.

If you haven't read this, I highly recommend it. My favorite read in 2018.

Allie (allieeveryday) Others I found this week:
Long Way Down (Edgar)
The Poet X (National Book Award)

If comics are your thing:
Black Panther: World of Wakanda (Eisner)
The Tea Dragon Society (Eisner)

Jenny (sapphicbookdragon) | 115 comments Oh! I SO want to read Tea Dragon Society! But it always seems to be too expensive to get here (Scotland)

Candiss (tantara) For double-dippers/multi-dippers: The Tea Dragon Society also works for:

- A comic by an LGBTQIA creator

- A children’s or middle grade book (not YA) that has won a diversity award since 2009: The book is an ALA Rainbow book, which is one of the listed awards/accolades Book Riot linked for this task.

I got my copy from Forbidden Planet Glasgow - they have occasional girls-only nights called She Reads Comics, during which the shop offers a 20% discount on everything. 😁

Better yet, it's reduced by 25% on Book Depository just now.

It is so worth it! I've read it several times! See if your local library has it if you can't purchase it!

Bluebird, Bluebird won an Edgar Award for best novel, and I think I'm going to read that one for this challenge. I feel the same way about Stone Sky.

Ava | 29 comments Thank you all for the suggestions! I'm going to cross Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body off my TBR list for this task.

message 24: by DarthVixReads (new)

DarthVixReads | 26 comments The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemison won the Hugo in 2018 for best novel. It is a third in series but I have been meaning to to get into it anyway so this is a great reason to start! She has won back to back with each of her novels in this series sooo I can’t wait.

Maddie (madelinewagner) | 29 comments Books I'm considering:

Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie (Women’s Prize for Fiction)
Improvement by Joan Silber (PEN/Faulkner Fiction)
