Country: Italy
Book: The Graveyard of the Hesperides by Lindsey Davis
Completed 1/27/19
Love the ancient Rome setting and Flavia Albia's smart mouth!

Country: Australia
Book: A Decline in Prophets by Sulari Gentill
Completed 2/1/19
Second in the series - almost a cozy, but with interesting information about world and Australian social issues of the time

Country: United Kingdom
Book: Death of a Squire by Maureen Ash
Completed 2/8/19
The author really brings the early 13th century to life and the protagonist is a complex, yet likeable character.

Country: Sweden
Book: Wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekbäck
Completed 2/14/19
This was the author's debut novel and the mystery aspect was well done. The descriptions of the environment and lives the settlers lived was very compelling and really added to the mystery, but I felt the political and mystical aspects muddled the story.

Country: Greece
Book: The Pericles Commission by Gary Corby
Completed 2/15/19
This took a while to get into since I'm not very familiar with Ancient Greece, but the mystery was solid and the pace picked up about halfway thru. Definitely will read others in the series.

Country: Turkey
Book: The Mosaic of Shadows by Tom Harper

Country : Turkey
Book: The Mosaic of Shadows by Tom Harper
Completed 2/24/19
Very likeable MC and interesting information about Turkey and the Crusades. Bit too much politics/court intrigue for my taste.

Country: Canada
Book: The Devil's Making by Seán Haldane
Completed 3/15/19
A bit of a slog for me - well done HF and well done mystery that didn't quite gel together.

Country: France
Book: In the Presence of Evil by Tania Bayard
Completed 3/21/19
Very interesting protagonist - Christine de Pizan and time period - late 14th Century. 1st in the series and I'll definitely look for more.

Country: India
Book: A Rising Man by Abir Mukherjee
Completed 4/10/19
Spot on, Sandy. Very well done start to the series. Reminds me of the Joe Sandilands series, but with more depth to the main character. Will definitely read following titles.

And, you found a South American book! A continent I need! Be sure to report back if you like it.

Country:
Book: City of Silver: A Mystery by Annamaria Alfieri
Completed 4/15/19
Read like a novelization of a 17th century telenovella (if there was such a thing!). Vindictive priests, crooked politicians, greedy businessmen, illicit affairs. You know, just your everyday happenings :).

Country: Kenya
Book: The Leopard's Prey by Suzanne Arruda
Completed 5/19/19
I've been slowly reading this series and they are quite enjoyable. Set in 1920's Kenya, it features a dashing young American woman who had served as an ambulance drive during WWI.

Country: Germany (Bavaria)
Book: The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch
Completed 6/12/19
This was on my TBR list for so long that my library lost all of its' copies and I had to do an Interlibrary Loan! Well worth it. Interesting characters and the time period was nicely brought to life.

Country: Russia
Book: Death in St. Petersburg by Tasha Alexander
Completed 6/19/19
Not one of the strongest in the series, but still enjoyable.

Country: Yugoslavia
Book: The Man From Berlin by Luke McCallin
Started 8/22/19; completed 8/26/19
A very nuanced, well written military mystery with a complex protagonist - highly recommended, if that's your cup of tea. Interesting look at internal conflicts in Yugoslavia during WWII.
