This book had been on my “to read” list for a couple of years. It was a great start to my Around the Globe Challenge. The majority of the story is set in Egypt in the mid 1800’s. The characters have diverse personalities but are somewhat predictable. Overall it is a good mystery.

Sooooo . . . I was surprised and disappointed by how hard it was to “get into” this book! I had read book 1 in the series, The Bee Keepers Apprentice, and really loved it. Maybe I should have read the series in order. There were some good plot twists and intense scenes that would incline me to give it 3.5 stars.

Christine | 29 comments Around the Globe Challenge Books 3 and 4

A. region Europe

B. country England

C. title/author Murder at the Brightwell/ Ashley Weaver

Although this is book 1 in the series there is a lot of back story that slowly trickles out during the plot. The characters seem to have stepped right off an old time movie set with their language and quirks. The mystery has delightful twists and turns. Overall an enjoyable read.

A. region North America

B. country USA

C. title/author The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree/ Susan Wittig Albert

D. (date finished and comments) March 11, 2019
Talk about estrogen overload! LOL The nearly all female cast of characters investigates and solves four mysteries in the first book of the series: bank trouble, a murder, an affair, and a ghost. If you are PC language sensitive - get over it. The author tells it like it was back in the 1930s deep south.
