The Clockmaker's Daughter
question
question about plot point *spoilers*

I loved this book, but I have a question about Ada. Who saved Ada from drowning? She was at the bottom of the pond & graved the stone, and then I couldn't figure out how or who pulled her from the water?

I thought that it was the other girl, (I think her name was May?), who had actually saved Ada from drowning, because she was the one who ended up drowning in the river that day.
Yes, I think May saved her because she was the girl who drowned. And she seemed to be the nicer of the two older girls.
I asked myself the same question about Tip and the gem. But I think that he was a very creative, spiritual and not a rational person who thought about things like that and lived slightly secluded?!

I assumed it was Lily's 'spirit' and the whole "Eldritch Children/Fairy Queen" that saved Ada. I thought maybe that by focusing on reaching for the stone, she learned to propel herself in the water. But it is an unanswered question, how did she hang onto the stone.
The author does not say but I think that we are supposed to believe that somehow the stone/Lily's ghost helped her survive. But I think we are supposed to assume that an actual human also pulled her from the river.
I feel like it is weird that no one noticed she was holding a gemstone in her hand. Even after she was unconscious she still held onto it? I guess I pictured it being bigger because I was also surprised no one noticed it when they took her to the hospital and took off her dress. And when Tip grew up didn't he realize it was a gemstone that was worth a good amount of money? Not just a stone to decorate a box with?
