Today we have two Top Three Thursday threads for the end of the year! This is the regular monthly thread - share your three favourite reads this month. :)

Bea | 2050 comments December was a bit meh for me overall, but there were some gems:

Muse of Nightmares
The Bear and the Nightingale
Mythos

Honorable mention since it's not really a novel: The Father Christmas Letters

message 3: by Bill (last edited Dec 27, 2018 11:55AM) (new)

Bill | 2150 comments 1. A Plague of Swords by Miles Cameron - this series is shooting up my favorite series list.
2. Riddle-Master by Patricia A. McKillip - read the whole trilogy this month. Great story with high stakes but stayed very personal feeling.
3. Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff - really interesting story about a dark time in US history plus magic although a lot translates to current times.
4. Nimona by Noelle Stevenson - a really sweet and funny story.

I can never manage to keep it to 3.

message 4: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5949 comments 1. The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter

2. Finding Santa: Almost a Billionaire Series, Book One Just a fun Christmas romance that reminded me of a Hallmark channel movie. Sometimes that's all I need.

3. Marked in Flesh

Narilka | 5682 comments I have two for this month:

Fool's Assassin
Skyward

message 6: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 6898 comments 1) The Brotherhood of the Wheel #1 (reread) & King of the Road #2 - This is one of my fav UF series.

2) Nevernight was much better than I expected & won me over by the end. Godsgrave is in time out but I'm still down to read the last book next year.

3) Cainesville series by Kelley Armstrong had multiple issues but it had one of the best love stories I've read all year. The love stories and other relationships were great.

Shae | 372 comments A quiet reading month for me.

1. Bound - A Short Story (Lawrence) - really enjoyed reading this sitting on the beach Christmas morning while my husband and kids were having a surf :-)

2. Wundersmith (Townsend) - my son and I are big fans of the Nevermoor series, so far. We met the delightful author at the launch party for this book - I was really impressed by her enthusiasm and ability to genuinely connect with a theatre full of 8 to 12 year olds!

3. Twice Magic (Cowell) - another BR with my son, we've really enjoyed the humour in The Wizards of Once series :-)

Kathrine | 1249 comments Favorites this month (that aren't re-reads):

1. The Bear and the Nightingale – this was lovely, and especially as a winter read. Can't wait to follow Vasya's story in the coming books.
2. The Phantom of the Opera – we worked with this in my English class, but we only read excerpts and it made me want to read the entire book. I really liked the way it was written; despite being an older book, it was quite accessible. The story and the characters were also very intriguing.
3. The Christmasaurus – this was just a fun and sweet Christmas read which I really enjoyed, so cute <3

Honourable mention to: The Iliad – Loved the story but it was maybe a little to old in the writing for me to really enjoy it.
