Might also be fun to read the original version of Wakefield written by Nathaniel Hawthorne in 1835:

If you don't like short stories, feel free to read no futher here, and take a snail vacation from our monthly group read in May :)
In a recent poll 59% of our voting Book Snails said they'd like to give a SHORT STORY a shot as a group read (and 23% said 'maybe').
Well, since MAY is officially "short story month"...
► Let us know a SHORT STORY you'd like to nominate for a group read in MAY 2019. It can be a classic tale, or a newer one.
Instructions for short story nominations:
1. Please provide story title & author, and a URL (website address) where the story can be found.
2. So as many Snails as possible can participate, it preferably should be a story that can be read FREE online (directly in web browser on your phone or computer), or as a free Adobe PDF or eBook, with NO signups or jumping through hoops required.
3. Please limit yourself to to 1 or 2 suggestions, so our voting list doesn't grow toooooo long. Thanks!
TIP: Here are a few places you can find free short stories (feel free to suggest others!): (view spoiler)[
