I have seen a lot of mentions of this book being compared to Harry Potter. Around 250 pages in, I am starting to see that. Lots of similarities. Different enough that it is not a bad thing, but definitely cut from the same cloth!

Jessica-sim My book warned me about the Harry Potter-likeness on its blurb, but honestly, I totally forgot about that until I finished.

I can see it though, two young characters, orphaned at a young age, apparently unable to do anything wrong, excellent talents for whatever they want to be good at and both with super loyal friends. Perhaps even Luna is accounted for ;-)

Then we have the university vs wizard school setting ... but the adventures and the way magic works are completely different.

So yes, I agree there are similarities for sure but it results in a different kind of story (I Think)

The interesting thing about the story is I am enjoying it, but, I just hit 500 pages and I cannot believe it has taken 500 pages to tell what I have read so far. That isn't a bad thing, it just not feel like 500 pages of stuff has happened!

My reading has slowed down a bit on this one, not because it is not going well, but because I started March with too many books!

I will say that the last third of this book has so far been an entirely different story than the rest.
