Who else read this in school?

I read it in one of my classes as a freshman in High school. Everyone had to read it because the author was coming to speak to our school.

I'd read this book in grammar school. I was not ready for that kind of content, and the descriptions of child abuse had me stunned. I was surprised at a young age how one could treat their own child.

Wow, I can't believe everyone had to read it. It's good in terms of awareness for other children who may be going through it, to teach them the importance of speaking out. I read this over 10 years ago and I still can't get over what he went through. No book has left me as emotional as this one to a point I had to put it down and take a step back, constantly whilst reading. It's my favourite non-fiction novel to date but it was (and still is) so disturbing. I can't believe school children were told to read this. I still find it so traumatic and disturbing to even think about and I'm in my 30's.

I read in school and read last year I feel everyone needs to read this book.

I read this book in middle school. Now thinking about it, I'm surprise we even read it with all that child abuse. I remember reading and even now I still get so mad and frustrated.

I was in the book club in school and this book was assigned. It left a scar. I think I could have gone without reading it and been fine with Precious or Room to take its place. Books have always hit me harder than movies.

I read the book twice once because my friend lent it to me and the second time I didn't have anything else to read. It's one of those books that makes you have so many emotions. I agree with you Vanessa the books are so much better than the movies. I don't usually get the same feeling.
