Ora (oeamis) Hi team!! I don’t have a lot of time this morning so I will be back later with some get to know questions.

message 8: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) A few questions:

Where do you live?
Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
How many books do you read a month?
Favorite genre
Favorite author

Any questions you want teammates to answer...

message 9: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Where do you live?
North Carolina

Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
Yes. I have played the past several years, other than the first year, Angie and I have been captain/co-captains together.

How many books do you read a month?
30-45. I usually amp up my reading/listening during team challenges. Last year I really got burnt out on the volume I was reading so I won't be reading more than I have told the mods

Favorite genre It varies. I will read just about anything. Currently I am reading more paranormal and urban fantasy

Favorite author This is a hard one for me to. I love Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and new favorite author Christine Feehan

Any questions you want teammates to answer...
I have no idea. With weather so ugly today, all I want to do is sit by a fire and watch Netflix today. Thinking is too hard right now...later I will see if something comes to mind.

Allison | 269 comments Hi all! I'm excited to be back playing Uno this year!

Where do you live?
Manitoba, Canada - right in the middle.

Have you played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
I have played Uno before, in 2015 and 2016. I think the coloured cards were introduced after the years I played (could be wrong, not sure), and I'm interested to see what other changes have been made since then.

How many books do you read a month?
Depends on which hobby I'm in the mood for - 4-5 is my usual, though during challenges I can read more.

Favourite genre: Probably suspense and historical fiction (bonus if it's both).

Favourite author: Right now, I would go with Kristin Hannah and Stieg Larsson.

Any questions you want teammates to answer...
None that I can think of

Angie ☯ | 990 comments Hi team! Looking forward to playing Uno and getting to know some new friends!

Where do you live?
Tennessee
Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
I seem to be addicted to team challenges lately! This is my 3rd UNO year and I have co-captained with Ora all three! :-)
How many books do you read a month?
I read 20-25 on average, it depends on my work schedule and whether I am traveling or not.
Favorite genre
I like a lot of genres, but Paranormal and Suspense/Thriller are probably my favorites....today at least!
Favorite author
I have a hard time with this question too. There is a local author that is one of my favorites, Steven James, and I tend to read everything he writes. Stephen King, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs are a few other favorites.

Any questions you want teammates to answer.... I will come back and answer them. ;-)
What do you like about team challenges?
Are you a chatty team member or do you prefer to just check in weekly and play in the background?

message 12: by Kyle (new)

Kyle (kyleezer) | 4 comments Where do you live?
Charlottesville, VA

Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
I am really just beginning my journey as a more regular reader this year. So, as of yet, I have not participated in any reading challenges.

How many books do you read a month?
I am shooting for 3 per month, but 2 might be more realistic. I figure I will always plan for three, but might actually only finish two by the end of the month.

Favorite genre
I like general fiction, but more specifically, mystery/thriller.

Favorite author
I know this is cliche, but I have always had a passion for Stephen King. His characters get me every time.

What do you like about team challenges?
I like anything that motivates me to ready more, and it is fun meeting and talking to new people.

Are you a chatty team member or do you prefer to just check in weekly and play in the background?
I prefer to be chatty, but a severe introversion sometimes makes that difficult for me. So, I'm going to shoot for chatty, but we'll see how successful I am at that.

Tatiana Davis | 66 comments Hi All,

I’m Tatiana and I live in New York. I did the UNO challenge last year and it was a lot of fun. I usually read about 2 books a month. I have 4 kids and it can get be tough sometimes to read but I try. I love historical fiction and I would say my favorite author is Margaret Atwood right now but it changes often. I’m looking forward to this years challenge!

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments Hey team!

For some reason, didn't get a notification - this happened last year too, sigh.

Anyways!

Where do you live?
- Maryland

Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges?
- For the last two years :-)

How many books do you read a month?
- It really depends on the work schedule. I typically read 1-2 ebooks and maybe 1-2 audiobooks.

Favorite genre
- I honestly love them all!

Favorite author
- Again, too many to pick!

Are you a chatty team member or do you prefer to just check in weekly and play in the background?
- I am fine either way. My first time playing, we chatted a lot. I am pretty sure we had the longest thread of any group, lol. Last year, we checked in here and there, and it was fine that way too. :-)

HI ANGIE!!!! *waving frantically*

What do you like about team challenges?

Chatting and meeting new people. Also I have found new books and new authors to read. You can't have too many of those!

Are you a chatty team member or do you prefer to just check in weekly and play in the background?
It really depends on the day or week. I love a chatty team, not just about books, just every day stuff or something completely off the wall.

Hi Tatiana!! It does make it difficult to get any reading done with kids around. My last son moved out in August last year. Even though older kids, I probably should say men since he is an adult, aren't constantly wanting attention but that doesn't mean they don't make noise, especially when playing video games.

message 22: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I am normally on goodreads throughout the day. My schedule has changed so when I check goodreads in the mornings I probably wont' comment or update the SS since I am busy in the morning during the week. Every time I say I will just be a minute, it always winds up being a lot longer.

Allison | 269 comments Nice to meet you all so far!

Sarah, looks like we're reading the same book right now - how do you like it? I'm not too far in yet but so far so good.

What do you like about team challenges?
I also enjoy meeting new people, and the madness of trying to find the right books to fit in for all the goals.

Are you a chatty team member or do you prefer to just check in weekly and play in the background?
I personally prefer chatty teams, but I'm good with either if that's just how it goes.

Bonus/new question: What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of reading?

Hey Allison! I am not too far in it either. I am having a hard time finding myself wanting to sit down and read - adult life, ugh, lol.

However, what I have read, I am enjoying.

Bonus Question Answer - i've recently started hiking, and love it!

message 25: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of reading?

About a year and half ago I started making bath bombs, solid bubble bath, cupcake bath bombs (it's a combination of bath bomb and bubble bath), bath melts, solid lotion, whipped body cream and beard balm (for two of my sons).
I also love baking and crocheting.

message 26: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) FYI:

I have opened the working SS for everyone. About the last week of January to February 1st please chose a card you want to read for. If you are not sure what card(s) your book will work for, just post what you are reading so I know that you have started reading for the challenge.
I have not looked at our cards yet so I have no idea what we need. If you are planning on reading for one of our color cards, please post here prior. Tineye has been used in the past and sometimes is a bit wonky. If it's not clear if it will work or not Angie or I will ask in the captain's group for a final decision.

Angie ☯ | 990 comments So, why is it whenever Uno kicks off that my work stuff gets super crazy! Lol!! I realized that I didn't send shout outs to everyone, better late than never, I guess!!

Hey ORA!!! Waving over the mountain to you, neighbor!!

Hi ALLISON!! Good to meet you! You are a little farther north but still a neighbor of sorts!

Hi KYLE!! Nice to meet you as well! Looks like we are neighbors on opposite sides than Ora and I! You might be closer actually. :-)

Hi DIANE!! Welcome, looking forward to hearing your 'story'! Sounds like we all might be in the same boat with our Character - I kept thinking the picture looked familiar but I knew I hadn't read the book. It's the character in the British tv show and she played Rose on Dr. Who....that's what was familiar. :-D

Hi TATIANA!! Looking forward to playing Uno with you! Do you have any HF that you'd recommend? Sometimes I really like it and sometimes I don't. I think I need schooled in whats good or how to choose it!

Hi SARAH!! On, a girl after my own heart! Haven't found a book/genre that I wouldn't read! (And it sounds a lot like someone else on our team.......whose name might be Ora!)

Team Challenges - I like the mixture of people in them and the getting to know everyone. I can be chatty or not, and am good with either - I can talk books or silliness! I do think I prefer a little chatter though. :-)

Hobbies outside reading - I love movies and movie popcorn! I used to go to movies on the Thursday before they "opened" on Friday, but don't do that much anymore. I like to travel or just go, doesn't have to be far and can be a day trip or a weekend; I love to getaway to new places and see the sites.

Sarah Twiggs (twiggssl) | 572 comments Looked over the spreadsheet - I plan on kicking off the Challenge with

One Day In December

Based of of Goodreads, it works For:
0: Standalone
1: T (One)
6: ALN (Silver)

Midnight Rose
1: First Book of Series
3: ALN (Hart)
6: Place (Sandpoint, Idaho)
Skip: CFN (Kendra)

I am sure there is more for both :-)

message 29: by Ora (last edited Jan 15, 2019 08:29AM) (new)

Ora (oeamis) I will have to double check, but I think Midnight Rose will work for 5 Idaho also.

message 30: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I wish I could say what I will start off with, but I can't. It will be towards the end of the month before I can figure it out unless there is a new release on February 1st. I haven't looked at that either.

Oh man, movie theatre popcorn is the best!! I've went to the theatre just for the popcorn once, though it's a bit of an expensive snack :P

message 34: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 990 comments I have done that too Allison! We have a theater that has an annual popcorn bucket it's plastic of course and you get to bring it back all year and fill it for half the price of a large popcorn. Since we've gotten that, I've been know to go get a bucket of popcorn and bring it home! I used to get funny looks, not so much anymore! Ha!!

Dani Arias (danitza) Hey there everyone! Im playing for the first time, Ill answer this:

Where do you live? Buenos Aires, Argentina

Have you've played UNO before? If not, have you played other team challenges? Nop

How many books do you read a month? 2/3 depending on the amount of work I have.

Favorite genre sci-fi, fantasy, slice of life.

Favorite author I have man, Bradbury, Capote and Sturgeon, right now falling for Ursula K Le Guin and Banana Yoshimoto

message 41: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lee Hello everyone! I'm Alyssa and I'm from Alabama, but I'm attending college in Hattiesburg, Mississippi currently. This is my first time doing UNO, I think, but I try to participate in team challenges when I can, whether here or elsewhere. As for how many books I read per month, that's a bit of a toss up now that I'm in college, but I know I can get at least one (and normally closer to 5) per month. My favorite genre would probably be fantasy, but I'll take fairy tale retellings in any way, shape, or form, so I'm sure it's no surprise Marissa Meyer is my favorite author currently. Also, I probably won't be super chatty just because I am in college so I'm trying to balance quite a bit right now. I'll check in as much as possible, though!

message 42: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lee Oh, and for this is it fine to just read whatever and then see how it matches? I'm very much a mood reader and don't like to plan what I read too much. I think what I'm asking is does a book have to be played the second it's read or could it later be used to fill a hand if it didn't fill the first hand, as long as the first hand is filled up before we log books in the next one?

message 43: by Angie ☯ (last edited Jan 16, 2019 08:53PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 990 comments Hi Alyssa! Welcome! Hope you enjoy Uno, it isn't super stressful but it does get a little harder when the mini challenges start.

Our team spreadsheet has all our hands for the first month, so we know right away what cards we need to play for that month. We can work on all the hands at the same time, we don't have to finish one to go to the next one. Usually, anything that is read will fit somewhere. I'm a mood reader too, so I understand the not planning a lot.

We'll give more details now that everyone is present and accounted for, but the most important thing we ask is that for the books you read, just list any hand/card that it could be played on when you post your completion posts.

I'm actually up to date with all of her books other than Gone Rogue right now, and I don't have her books with me, so I'm reading the Inheritance Cycle books and The Wicked King. I so wish I read enough during the semester that I could pick up some rereads, though! Those typically happen during the summer or over a break.

Diane Woods | 81 comments Hey everybody! I'm sorry it took me a while to get back here.

I have done it once and I didn't finish. I will this time!

How many books do you read a month?

Favorite genre
Horror

Favorite author
Stephen King; Dean Koontz; Jackie Collins and John Saul (I know it said one, but we all know that's an impossible choice!

Ora (oeamis) Time gets away. I finally at a point I don't feel like there are not enough hours in the day.

Diane - It's hard to chose just one author. I have read horror in the past. I always says I don't like it, but once I get started reading, I have a hard time putting it down.

Tatiana - I haven't read too many WWII era books. I love watching the History Channel documentaries and movies during WWII. I will see if I can get those from my library.
