Buddy read starts 21st January.

I'm reading book 4 right now so I'll be on time with this on Monday.

Book 4 caused a bit of eyerolling there at the beginning with (view spoiler)[Kendra's sudden death as stingbulb followed by the fast burial. (hide spoiler)] but other than that I'm really liking them still.

I have less than 50 pages left from book 4 so I can start this in the evening if you want.

Also, how do you want to read it? I have 2 other books also open so I don't mind going slower. :)

Going slow would be great! I'm reading War and Peace and don't want to turn too much of my reading time away from that.

Would planning 50 pages a day (or to the end of a chapter) be too slow? We can adjust as we go if we end up reading more. I know it's quick reading once you're in there.

That's ok. I don't mind slow. :)

Alright, I'm at page 111. Realized that we may not have the same edition, so reading by pages might not make sense. This puts me at chapter 7.

So far I'm liking this one quite a lot. They are always fun. I like that they get straight to the action.

(view spoiler)[The Sphinx's conversation with Seth was so strange. Him having been a slave and what happened with him was really interesting and you can kind of understand where he's coming from. Not that he's right, but it is interesting. (hide spoiler)]

Yes. I liked that part also. And it is a sort of excuse for him being so twisted now.
I burst out laughing at (view spoiler)[Goliath versus Nancy.
Goliath went after Nancy, Nancy punched Goliath, etc. It was hilarious despite all the fighting.

Those zombies came all of a sudden over there at the beginning. It did feel a bit confusing and for a moment there I didn't know who were the good guys and who the bad ones. Too many new names and a too fast pace. (hide spoiler)]

That part was really funny! And I agree with the pacing. It's nice to get into a story quickly, but it doesn't always work out that well.

Let's say we'll check in after every five chapters. I'm at chapter 9 now, might try to read a bit more today if I get a chance.

I haven't gotten to read more from this till now but I'll finish the 5 chapters by tomorrow.

I'm through chapter ten now. Hoping to get some more in today, but not sure that will happen. But here are some thoughts through chapter ten.

(view spoiler)[I like Bracken and find it interesting that centaurs can give up their horns like that. And how long do they live? I'm curious to see how this breakout attempt goes?

Going back and seeing Patton was really neat! I'm also really curious about who/what Vanessa knows. (hide spoiler)]

Just got to read Chapter 10 last night. I also (view spoiler)[ like Bracken and found it surprising that unicorns can assume human shape.

I am also curious about the attempt and loved the journey back in time. I have a feeling this is how they'll finally solve the problem and save the day. Through time travel.

The part when Seth was talking to his cell was really cute and made me smile.

And I'll bet Vanessa knows the location of the 5th preserve. But I don't get why she's not telling it yet. It doesn't make sense. (hide spoiler)]

My reading has been crazy. I just finished read chapter 16. Where have you gotten?

I managed to reach chapter 17 yesterday night and will try and read 5 more chapes today.
I did not see that coming. That the secret was (view spoiler)[Kendra's supposedly dead grandmother.
I loved the journeys to the past and then my jaw fell open because..
Seth healed the demon and the demon now has the artefacts and wants to open the prison!!
Did the Society amputate your brain? - that was pretty much a good question.

But in a way I suppose it was allright because Luna Nagi would have probably managed to overcome the Sphinx or fuck up his plans somehow. Or if not the Sphinx would have succeded and the world would be under his new order.

I'm curious how they'll manage to get out of the pickle. (hide spoiler)]

And Seth! He's one of my favorite characters and I felt so bad for him when that happened. He really was just trying to do the right thing. And he is only what, ten or eleven? Maybe twelve, but still, very young.

Yes, I felt very bad for him too. As the story goes, it's sometimes very easy to forget that he is just a child after all. And children can be very easily fooled as a rule, especially kind-hearted ones.

Exactly. It is hard to remember how young they are supposed to be sometimes. I've read a bit more and hoping to read more today. Trying to get this one finished soon.

I've read through chapter 21. (view spoiler)[I'm guessing we won't get to see Seth fulfill the bargain in this one, but I wonder what they will want him to get.

Bracken is supposed to be (view spoiler)[a guardian of the fairies though he seems to be very close to the Queen for just a simple guardian.

And who knows, maybe we'll get to see what Seth retrieves for them in the end? That poor kid has ro face stuff that would make a grown-up run for the hills. (hide spoiler)]

I'll try and finish this by tomorrow. It's been open for a very long time now and we're way past half.

I finished this one last night. I really enjoyed it.

(view spoiler)[Bracken being the son of the Fairy Queen and her being a unicorn was an interesting outcome. The Bracken/Kendra pairing was a bit strange. I saw it coming, just a little odd to me.

I loved Seth fighting Graulus and Nagi Luna. Kendra killing the Demon King was cool and all, but there is just something about Seth that I love.

The ending was a bit happier than I might have expected, but I didn't dislike that. (hide spoiler)]

I'm excited to read the Dragon Watch books at some point. I'm hoping I like those just as much.

I too loved the twist with Braken (view spoiler)[and the fairy queen being an unicorn. I loved it that she got her husband back and that they were able to restore the shrines.

However, I would have wanted more of Seth. At least see him returning to the sisters to hand over the sword, or perhaps use one of those figurines. It was a little bit too less of him there in the end.

The end felt rushed and overly simplified so that everyone has a happy ending, Sphinx included. And I didn't really feel quite ok with the whole Kendra-Braken relationship. But overall, a really good read. (hide spoiler)]

I think it's possible we might get more of some of those things in the Dragonwatch series. Maybe.
