Allyson Lees | 5 comments A book I read when I was around 10 years old (approx 1986-86) about a girl named Kathy or Cathy who lived in the gold fields with her mother and father and possibly a sibling or two. They lived in a tin shack in a small community.

This book would have been at least 10 years old when I read it, probably more like 20 or 30 years old. I'm very sketchy on other details other than a passage in the book that describes a day when it is too hot to do anything at around 50 degrees c.

Allyson, what is the time period of the story?

Can we eliminate A Nugget of Gold by Maureen Pople which involves two different time periods? One cover image: https://www.amazon.com/Nugget-Gold-Ma...

Can you tell us more about the girl - her age, skills/hobbies/interests, personality, her parents' jobs, etc.?

The Lucky Fall by Margaret Paice?

Description on www.worldcat.org - "Kathy Brown lives with her friends in a tiny gold-prospecting settlement in the Queensland bush. In this little community, friendship and kindness are the first rule of conduct. Then Kathy has an accident during a storm and the quiet little township leaps into the newspaper headlines and a goldrush ensues which brings all kinds of people to the town and alters the whole course of Kathy's life."
