Marking my place. And I love that cover!

I decided to start today... I hope I recall the details from the previous book.

Up to Ch 4... I understand why the boy is being cautious and distrustful, but I wish he would be smart enough to learn when to trust...

I finished it, and since no one else is doing this, I am going to read the next one right away... I want to know what happens:)

I’m reading it. I just had to wait for my copy to come over from the US. I will read both as well. And leave comments. So come back and keep me company xD

I plan to finish this trilogy, so please stick around! I just have a Guy Gavriel Kay book and book 2 of the Belgariad to read first - I think I should start this one towards the end of next week, maybe?

If you intend to power through the last one straight afterwards than I will too!

@ Choko I generally finish a series unless I really dislike it or simply can't get hold of the books. As I already have all three of this series sitting on my shelf I'm definitely going to complete this one!

5 chapters in, and Jaric's suspicion of the Llondel is annoying me! (view spoiler)[Keep the flute it offered, you silly boy - I'm almost sure you'll need it later! And given how it re-appeared on ship, I doubt even throwing it into the sea will keep get rid of it, or stop the demon from fashioning a new one. (hide spoiler)]

Am I the only one who feels slightly sorry for Emien? He's been tricked and used throughout this series so far and things don't look any better for him now (or anyone else he meets).

I definitely feel sorry for him. But I could also strangle him.

12 chapters down and I have to be honest, Jaric's (view spoiler)[ constant refusal to take on the role of Firelord is really starting to get to me! The Llondelei have shown him the end of the world, with the demons ruling over the remainder of human kind if he doesn't take the role on, and he's still whining on about it! I want to shake him and give him a good talking to! (hide spoiler)]

The setting (view spoiler)[ I'm really not a fan of the 'spacefaring race who founded fantasy colony' idea, particularly if the fantasy world has magic in it. It's just a quirk of mine, and I'm not expecting anyone else to mind one way or another. (hide spoiler)]

Finished. I'm going to give it three stars.

The parts I had trouble with (view spoiler)[ basically, Jaric's angsting about accepting his 'legacy' and learning how to use his power and this going on for the entire book really made me roll my eyes and want to slap some sense into him. Most of the book I was thinking 'you've been warned what could happen if you don't learn a way to fight these demons, so get on with it!' It just felt painfully drawn out to me.

I think after so long reading fantasy (well over half my life now) I'm fed up with angst-ridden reluctant heroes. It's a shame, because I really liked Jaric in the previous book. I'm hoping the next book will be a dramatic climax to the story. (hide spoiler)]

I can see Wurts is a good writer (I read the Empire trilogy and her standalone novel Sorcerer's Legacy years and years ago), but her apparent fondness for sensitive male characters who have to be forced into accepting their heritage leaves me cold.

Almost done. Still going. It doesn’t grip me as much as the first one so I’ve had gaps between the chapters. Am roughly 70% in and will start the third one on the 15th.

But what you mentioned about the setting, personally I found this interesting and I love the science fantasy genre books where the genre borders blur.

I have returned to normal life reading after what seems like an eternity and at the moment I am catching up with everything including this series (Shatarn's 3 stars tell me this has not been very captivating?)

I've just been finishing up, and while I loved the first one more, I did still enjoy this!
