Vanessa (thehispanicbookworm) | 338 comments Did you guys see that BOTM added two new categories of books? Non-fiction and YA. Did anyone get books from this category this month?

message 2: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I was thinking of getting an add on from the new non-fiction category, but changed my mind last minute. Mainly because I’d rather just purchase it on my kindle to read.

Tom Henry I’m new to botm. I noticed the categories but didn’t know they were new.

Wolf (extralizard13) | 17 comments I got Gilded Wolves, which admittedly I hated, but the two categories are exciting!

I got The Mastermind. I'm a sucker for true crime.

Jillian (jillcen) | 3 comments I noticed YA as a new category! Which, to be honest, I'm not really happy about =\ I feel like BOTM caters to adults, and I feel like YA can be a bit of a waste of a category...if I may put it so bluntly!

Brenda | 8 comments Even though BOTM may be catered more towards adults doesn't mean that there aren't any teens on the site. Not long after i learned how to tead i was reading above my grade level in school so I would anything i could get my hands on that i thought sounded interesting. I am still that way i even read ya books if they sound good.

Michelle | 6 comments I think the BOTM club should spend more time juicing up the books they pick for the existing categories instead of adding new genres. Recently I have skipped my monthly selection because the novels seem so...blah. I would like to see more challenging novels with great plot lines and unforgettable characters. More books like The Hearts Invisible Furies by John Boyne for example.

I have been finding it hard to stay investing in BOTM mainly because I feel like we get the same story selections every time. So, I'm with you on thinking they should juice up their selections.

I agree with you Jillian! I hope there are not too many YA selections going forward.

Is there a way you/we could forward the suggestions to the BOTM team?

The reason there is a YA category is because BOTM is introducing a new YA-only subscription box. These are separate from the "regular" BOTM but their books are available to "regular" BOTM as add-ons

They've also added a nonfiction exclusive subscription box.

Thanks Kenda for your explanations! How can we navigate to these separate subscriptions? I wanted to take a look at the non-fiction subscription option, but haven't been able to find it on their website.

They are at https://bookofthemonth.com/ya/ and https://bookofthemonth.com/nonfiction/

You have to be logged out of your BOTM account to view them, or else it just redirects you to the regular site.

Thanks Kenda! I see BOTM is beta-besting these concepts. Thanks for sharing the sneak-previews!

Wolf (extralizard13) | 17 comments This kind of bums me out that they might split away YA & Nonfic away? I do BOTM partly to choose books I don’t typically read, and I’m definitely not typically someone who picks up NF. I’ve gotten some YA recently, reading THESE WITCHES DON’T BURN which I was a bit excited for. Unless it’s geared specifically for those who ONLY want these categories, and BOTM will be open to ALL categories? I read THE BURIED last month, which I wouldn’t have picked normally & really liked it.

message 18: by Meera (new)

Meera | 32 comments I hadn’t known about the new categories. I think I am okay with it. Unless I don’t pick anything for the month, I could always add a nonfic as an add on. I don’t really care about the YA being taken away for the same reason and plus I rarely choose from that category. I have nothing against YA but as a high school teacher and a mother of teenagers, I need a break from that world!

Elsa Carrion (ecarrion) | 710 comments I was looking for a book and decided to see of BOTM offered it. Unfortunately it did not. However I did come accros a book called Evicted Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond . I don't remember it being offered. Does anyone remember when this book was offered? Also, the category/genre is no longer offered (Social Sciences) when did that happen?

I wonder what other books are not listed but they still have. Any one else know of a book that isn't listed on the All Books List, but if searched can still be found? I would love to know.
