What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

does anybody remember what this book was called? a young girl her father had run off there was a goat that attacked her on a school bus and lots of animals with some crazy disease. If you took the animal in the correct direction it would not grow massive, I seem to remember they had a snail trapped in a Tupperware box and were using it for directions, then the granddad cooked it on the car radiator and ate it...

I read this some time in the early 00's, after buying it in a book shop in USA. I believe it is probably a young adult book.

Yes! It’s part of a series, I read as a teenager I had an omnibus I think
