Derpa | 2 comments I really, really tried liking City of Bones and I failed so badly. I don't remember the exact quotes, but some of her similes made me facepalm so hard. They made no sense and reminded me of some funny post on 9gag, that was a collection of similar things, written by high school students. It's never a good sign if an actual, published writer's style reminds me of an intentionally horrid collection of failed school paper quotes.
Her characters were extremely annoying as well. Clary hates absolutely everyone other than Jace and she's surprised that she's unpopular. Also, their relationships are weird. Maybe I'm just being horrible and nitpicky, but it just felt like her characters always needed to find their assigned perfect partner right away. Like oh no, you're probably gay and/or cursed if you don't fall for the first person who comes your way.

Christy City of Bones featured some really mediocre writing, especially in its dialogue. Very forced "banter." Won't be reading another by her.

The Book Queen | 3 comments I read the Infernal Devices; the first was good but I didn't like the other two that much. I will read City of Bones just to see what it's like.

OneFootInHellAlready (one-foot-in-hell-already) | 12 comments @christy - that was her first book and her writing does get better. She doesn't become Shakespeare no, but she does improve.

Gina (get-your-read-on) | 6 comments I didn't like her writing at all. I despised them but I still gave her more chances. I got up City of .. Lost Souls?

I will give her credit though, as City of Glass her writing improved tremendously. The battles were nicely done. But otherwise BOO. I don't like. I won't touch the infernal devices. I already torture myself too much.

Lauren Redmond | 2 comments I gave up after the first two Mortal Instruments books. I then switched over to Clockwork Angel but only read the first book of that....cant really say I'll be back for more.

Ross Bauer (nightlightknight) | 5 comments Such a shame that the series becomes more 'regurgitant' with each cash grab trilogy because it was the interesting lore and mythology that drew me to the Mortal Instruments, and the pathetic characterisation and stupid plot that gave me an excuse to leave and never expose myself to such tedium ever again. My favourite book she's written is the Shadowhunter's Codex, which gives you an idea where I'm coming from.
