Cozy Mysteries discussion

I enjoy mysteries that center around southern venues. For instance Margaret Maron and the Deborah Knott series or Patricia Sprinkle and her "Thoroughly Southern Mysteries". I was hoping readers could suggest other cozies that use the southern theme or southern characters?

The Sarah Booth Delaney series. VERY Southern.

Elliot Lisbon series.

Liz Talbot series.

Some people consider the Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross as mysteries. This series is light on mystery, but definitely full of Southern characters and humor.

Livia J. Washburn has a couple series set in the south -- the Literary Tour series in Atlanta, and the Fresh Bakes series in Texas.

Elizabeth Lynn Casey has a sewing series set in South Carolina.

Alyse Carlson has a garden series set in Roanoke, Virginia.

Laura Childs has a Tea Shop series set in Charleston, South Carolina and a scrapbook series set in New Orleans.

Patricia Sprinkle also has another Southern-set mystery series, the Sheila Travis mysteries. The first is Murder at Markham. They may be harder to find as they are out of print.

Susan Wittig Albert's China Bayles mysteries are set in Texas, but have plenty of Southern flair.

Thank you for some great suggestions. I do love the Miss Julia series. I also enjoy Fannie Flagg books - love her characters. Does anyone know why Patricia Sprinkle stopped writing the Thoroughly Southern Mysteries series with Magistrate MacLaran?

Just finished reading The Darling Dahlias and the Cucumber Tree by Susan Wittig Albert. And I loved it! Looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoy Carolyn Hart's Death on Demand series set in a mystery bookstore on a fictional South Carolina island.

I like the series very much and hope she will write more.

All the Charlaine Harris mysteries have Southern settings, and are excellent IMHO. I think the Aurora Teagarden series is the best as straight up mysteries. The Sookie series is the weakest I personally think.

The "Cat in the Stacks" mysteries by Miranda James is set in Athena, Mississippi. So is the spin-off series: the Southern Sisters Mysteries set in the same town.
