Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Here's one of mine: growing up we exchanged Christmas gifts with friends. The dad of the family was an educator. Each year he would carefully select a book for me, and write a personal and beautiful inscription. I think that was the gift I looked forward to the most every year. Frank held the belief that I was brilliant (trust me, I'm not) and that confidence, along with the inspiring inscription and carefully selected books fostered in me a lifelong love of reading and cultivated the pleasure I always feel when selecting the next book to read.

Sera | 1325 comments My favorite book memory was reading my first chapter book. It was a Nancy Drew mystery that my mom's friend had gifted me when I was 11. She was cleaning out her house and gave me 5 or 6 of the books. It was the first time that I had sat down and read a book in one setting. I had loved reading books, but I had to get mine from the library, and we weren't able to go as frequently as I would have liked.

My reading really took off at that point, and I have been an avid reader ever since.

I always loved Nancy Drew. My neighbors and I would act out "sprinting across the lawn to her sporty roadster".

Sera | 1325 comments Love that! I always wanted a boyfriend like Ned, and her BFFs were super cool, too. I remember trying to read all of the mystery books in order. I used to borrow them from the library. They had quite a few, and I struggled to put a dent in the them. There were so many!
