Jaycee Singleton Everything on a waffle won the 2002 Newbery Award and is written by Polly Horvath. This amazing story truly touches your heart and is a page turner. Primrose, the main character lives with her two parents. One day he father goes missing over sea and worries his family. As a result, Primroses mother goes in search for him and leaves Primrose in the care of a neighbor. This neighbor however seems to be a bad fit for her, as she is a mentally unstable older woman. So, Primrose is sent to her Uncle Jack to whom she connects with. It is announced that her parents were lost at sea and presumed to be dead. Primrose did not want to believe this and in fact, she most certainly did not. She refused to attend their memorial and say goodbye.Through all of the bumpy roads in this story, it leaves you breathless. I won’t spoil the ending but it’s definitely one you need to read.
Primrose is left lost and confused and this is the main focus of the story. This young girl must find her place, and in the meantime, she never gives up hope that her parents are out there still. I love the moral of the story, which is to never give up. This is a life lesson many adults are still struggling with and for a child to go through it, it’s truly amazing. Sometimes you need to hold on to that little faith you have left in order to live a happy life.
