Published in 2004, Roth anticipated the current political environment by imagining America if Nazi sympathizer Charles Lindbergh beat FDR in the Election of 1940 on an anti-war platform. At times shocking with parallels to today’s political environment, including increased tolerance for hate speech and violence, let’s hope we experience similar happy ending.
