We are escorted to our deluxe room and get settled, excited to start our journey.

Our adventure has begun and after a delicious lunch we arrive in the beautiful coastal city of Ratnagiri. We head to the Ratnadurg Fort ruins that are surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea and a wonder to marvel at. Then we visit Thibaw Palace and Tombs where the last king of Burma was exiled by the British. We return to the train for dinner and our first night riding the rails.

We take a walking tour of Old Panjim. Wandering through the terraced hills & cobbled streets gives us a feel for the Portuguese influence in Goa. Our day ends with an evening of Portuguese carnival music and an authentic Goan dinner.

It’s a surreal landscape with huge granite boulders interspersed with lush green paddy fields, irrigated by ancient canals. This area dates back to the Neolithic time period with rock paintings dating back to 1500 BC. We explore the fort and have a chance to interact with the locals getting a small glimpse into their simple village life. We spend the night on the train in Hospet.

In our own battery operated carts called Tuk Tuks, we enjoy such prominent sites as Virupaksha Temple, the Stone Chariot and the Vittala Temple Complex that houses the incredible Musical Pillars that produce musical bell-like tones when struck with a thumb. We return to the train for dinner and overnight we proceed to our next destination.

We proceed to dinner at a special venue along with a traditional South Indian dance performance.

and much of the architecture reflects this colonial past. We will spend the day enjoying the famous sights, like the Gateway of India, the Bombay High Court, and the University of Mumbai with its Rajabai Clock Tower. And of course, the prestigious Taj Palace hotel where we will be spending our first glorious night being pampered. Our adventure has begun and after a delicious lunch we arrive in the beautiful coastal city of Ratnagiri. We head to the Ratnadurg Fort ruins that are surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea and a wonder to marvel at. Then we visit Thibaw Palace and Tombs where the last king of Burma was exiled by the British. We return to the train for dinner and our first night riding the rails.

We begin our day in Goa visiting several of the UNESCO Churches of North Goa including the Jesuit Basilica of Bom Jesu, where the remains of Saint Francis Xavier are preserved and Se Cathedral which was built to mark the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese. We take a walking tour of Old Panjim. Wandering through the terraced hills & cobbled streets gives us a feel for the Portuguese influence in Goa. Our day ends with an evening of Portuguese carnival music and an authentic Goan dinner.

This morning the train travels through some beautiful, scenic countryside and arrives at Hospet Station. We take a day trip across the Tungabhadra River to Anegundi Village and Fort. It’s a surreal landscape with huge granite boulders interspersed with lush green paddy fields, irrigated by ancient canals. This area dates back to the Neolithic time period with rock paintings dating back to 1500 BC. We explore the fort and have a chance to interact with the locals getting a small glimpse into their simple village life. We spend the night on the train in Hospet.

Today we visit the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The Vijayanagara kingdom, once the richest empire in the world, produced outstanding architecture and this group of monuments attests to this. In our own battery operated carts called Tuk Tuks, we enjoy such prominent sites as Virupaksha Temple, the Stone Chariot and the Vittala Temple Complex that houses the incredible Musical Pillars that produce musical bell-like tones when struck with a thumb. We return to the train for dinner and overnight we proceed to our next destination.

We spend the morning at the magnificent Mysore Palace. One of the largest complexes in South India, we have gorgeous ceremonial halls, well-maintained gardens, and expansive courtyards to explore. Lunch is at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, built for an exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India in the 1920's. For the afternoon we head to the pilgrimage city of Srirangapatna. With its impressive temples, historical monuments and peaceful riverside setting, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city.

After lunch we are given a tour of the Model Eco Tourism Village where we learn about sustainability and see workers exhibiting skills such as rope making and wicker work. We are then given a chance to see the giant Chinese Fishing Nets the area is known for in action. An impressive sight to see! We proceed to dinner at a special venue along with a traditional South Indian dance performance.

Today we enjoy a scenic canoe ride on the Kumarakom backwaters, passing through narrow canals with coconut palms dotting the landscape. Then we enjoy a delicious lunch at an exclusive lakefront venue. Then we get to witness an exhilarating Snake Boat Race! Each canoe has 60 boatmen rowing to drums and energizing songs providing a magnificent example of rigorous training and team spirit of a traditional sport of South India. Returning to the train, we have a special “Indian Evening” onboard raising a toast to our last evening on the Maharajas’ Express.

So before heading home, spend a day or two seeing the sights or relaxing at Kovalam Beach enjoying your last few days in India.

We head to the Ratnadurg Fort ruins that are surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea and a wonder to marvel at. Then we visit Thibaw Palace and Tombs where the last king of Burma was exiled by the British. We return to the train for dinner and our first night riding the rails.

We begin our day in Goa visiting several of the UNESCO Churches of North Goa including the Jesuit Basilica of Bom Jesu, where the remains of Saint Francis Xavier are preserved and Se Cathedral which was built to mark the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese. We take a walking tour of Old Panjim. Wandering through the terraced hills & cobbled streets gives us a feel for the Portuguese influence in Goa. Our day ends with an evening of Portuguese carnival music and an authentic Goan dinner.

This morning the train travels through some beautiful, scenic countryside and arrives at Hospet Station. We take a day trip across the Tungabhadra River to Anegundi Village and Fort. It’s a surreal landscape with huge granite boulders interspersed with lush green paddy fields, irrigated by ancient canals. This area dates back to the Neolithic time period with rock paintings dating back to 1500 BC. We explore the fort and have a chance to interact with the locals getting a small glimpse into their simple village life. We spend the night on the train in Hospet.

Today we visit the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The Vijayanagara kingdom, once the richest empire in the world, produced outstanding architecture and this group of monuments attests to this. In our own battery operated carts called Tuk Tuks, we enjoy such prominent sites as Virupaksha Temple, the Stone Chariot and the Vittala Temple Complex that houses the incredible Musical Pillars that produce musical bell-like tones when struck with a thumb. We return to the train for dinner and overnight we proceed to our next destination.

We spend the morning at the magnificent Mysore Palace. One of the largest complexes in South India, we have gorgeous ceremonial halls, well-maintained gardens, and expansive courtyards to explore. Lunch is at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, built for an exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India in the 1920's. For the afternoon we head to the pilgrimage city of Srirangapatna. With its impressive temples, historical monuments and peaceful riverside setting, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city.

We spend the morning at leisure onboard as the Maharajas' Express chugs into Kerala Province known as “God's Own Country”. We arrive in Cochin, set on a magnificent estuary. After lunch we are given a tour of the Model Eco Tourism Village where we learn about sustainability and see workers exhibiting skills such as rope making and wicker work. We are then given a chance to see the giant Chinese Fishing Nets the area is known for in action. An impressive sight to see! We proceed to dinner at a special venue along with a traditional South Indian dance performance.

This morning the train travels through some beautiful, scenic countryside and arrives at Hospet Station. We take a day trip across the Tungabhadra River to Anegundi Village and Fort. It’s a surreal landscape with huge granite boulders interspersed with lush green paddy fields, irrigated by ancient canals. This area dates back to the Neolithic time period with rock paintings dating back to 1500 BC. We explore the fort and have a chance to interact with the locals getting a small glimpse into their simple village life. We spend the night on the train in Hospet.

Today we visit the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The Vijayanagara kingdom, once the richest empire in the world, produced outstanding architecture and this group of monuments attests to this. In our own battery operated carts called Tuk Tuks, we enjoy such prominent sites as Virupaksha Temple, the Stone Chariot and the Vittala Temple Complex that houses the incredible Musical Pillars that produce musical bell-like tones when struck with a thumb. We return to the train for dinner and overnight we proceed to our next destination.

We spend the morning at the magnificent Mysore Palace. One of the largest complexes in South India, we have gorgeous ceremonial halls, well-maintained gardens, and expansive courtyards to explore. Lunch is at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, built for an exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India in the 1920's. For the afternoon we head to the pilgrimage city of Srirangapatna. With its impressive temples, historical monuments and peaceful riverside setting, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city.

We are then given a chance to see the giant Chinese Fishing Nets the area is known for in action. An impressive sight to see! We proceed to dinner at a special venue along with a traditional South Indian dance performance.

We are escorted to our deluxe room and get settled, excited to start our journey.

3. Mumbai to Ratnagiri - 328 KM
Our adventure has begun and after a delicious lunch we arrive in the beautiful coastal city of Ratnagiri. We head to the Ratnadurg Fort ruins that are surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea and a wonder to marvel at. Then we visit Thibaw Palace and Tombs where the last king of Burma was exiled by the British. We return to the train for dinner and our first night riding the rails.

We begin our day in Goa visiting several of the UNESCO Churches of North Goa including the Jesuit Basilica of Bom Jesu, where the remains of Saint Francis Xavier are preserved and Se Cathedral which was built to mark the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese. We take a walking tour of Old Panjim. Wandering through the terraced hills & cobbled streets gives us a feel for the Portuguese influence in Goa. 1. Our Journey Begins in Mumbai
Originally known as Bombay, this bustling city’s history is marked by its British rule
and much of the architecture reflects this colonial past. We will spend the day enjoying the famous sights, like the Gateway of India, the Bombay High Court, and the University of Mumbai with its Rajabai Clock Tower. And of course, the prestigious Taj Palace hotel where we will be spending our first glorious night being pampered. We'll enjoy some contemporary Indian cuisine at the hotel’s restaurant, Masala Kraft.

2. Taj Palace to Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus - 2.3 KM
This morning we head to the absolutely stunning Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus. This historic railway station is an UNESCO Heritage site and is worth exploring before we participate in our traditional Indian Welcome Ceremony and board the Maharajas' Express. We are escorted to our deluxe room and get settled, excited to start our journey.

3. Mumbai to Ratnagiri - 328 KM
Our adventure has begun and after a delicious lunch we arrive in the beautiful coastal city of Ratnagiri. We head to the Ratnadurg Fort ruins that are surrounded on three sides by the Arabian Sea and a wonder to marvel at. Then we visit Thibaw Palace and Tombs where the last king of Burma was exiled by the British. We return to the train for dinner and our first night riding the rails.

4. Ratnagiri to Goa – 270 KM
We begin our day in Goa visiting several of the UNESCO Churches of North Goa including the Jesuit Basilica of Bom Jesu, where the remains of Saint Francis Xavier are preserved and Se Cathedral which was built to mark the conquest of Goa by the Portuguese. We take a walking tour of Old Panjim. Wandering through the terraced hills & cobbled streets gives us a feel for the Portuguese influence in Goa. Our day ends with an evening of Portuguese carnival music and an authentic Goan dinner.

5. Goa – Hospet 319 KM
This morning the train travels through some beautiful, scenic countryside and arrives at Hospet Station. We take a day trip across the Tungabhadra River to Anegundi Village and Fort. It’s a surreal landscape with huge granite boulders interspersed with lush green paddy fields, irrigated by ancient canals. This area dates back to the Neolithic time period with rock paintings dating back to 1500 BC. We explore the fort and have a chance to interact with the locals getting a small glimpse into their simple village life. We spend the night on the train in Hospet.

6. Hospet to Hampi 22 KM (Round Trip)
Today we visit the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The Vijayanagara kingdom, once the richest empire in the world, produced outstanding architecture and this group of monuments attests to this. In our own battery operated carts called Tuk Tuks, we enjoy such prominent sites as Virupaksha Temple, the Stone Chariot and the Vittala Temple Complex that houses the incredible Musical Pillars that produce musical bell-like tones when struck with a thumb. We return to the train for dinner and overnight we proceed to our next destination.

7. Hospet to Mysore 474 KM
We spend the morning at the magnificent Mysore Palace. One of the largest complexes in South India, we have gorgeous ceremonial halls, well-maintained gardens, and expansive courtyards to explore. Lunch is at the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, built for an exclusive stay of the Viceroy of India in the 1920's. For the afternoon we head to the pilgrimage city of Srirangapatna. With its impressive temples, historical monuments and peaceful riverside setting, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city.

8. Mysore to Cochin 485 KM
We spend the morning at leisure onboard as the Maharajas' Express chugs into Kerala Province known as “God's Own Country”. We arrive in Cochin, set on a magnificent estuary. After lunch we are given a tour of the Model Eco Tourism Village where we learn about sustainability and see workers exhibiting skills such as rope making and wicker work. We are then given a chance to see the giant Chinese Fishing Nets the area is known for in action. An impressive sight to see! We proceed to dinner at a special venue along with a traditional South Indian dance performance.

9. Cochin to Kumarakom 115 KM (Round Trip)
Today we enjoy a scenic canoe ride on the Kumarakom backwaters, passing through narrow canals with coconut palms dotting the landscape. Then we enjoy a delicious lunch at an exclusive lakefront venue. Then we get to witness an exhilarating Snake Boat Race! Each canoe has 60 boatmen rowing to drums and energizing songs providing a magnificent example of rigorous training and team spirit of a traditional sport of South India. Returning to the train, we have a special “Indian Evening” onboard raising a toast to our last evening on the Maharajas’ Express.

10. Kumarakom to Trivandrum 202 KM
This morning after breakfast we bid farewell to the Maharajas' Express as our journey comes to an end. We disembark in Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala. It is a bustling city that has a lot to offer and the historical, religious and cultural hotspots make it one of the most visited places in India. It is also known for its beautiful beach resorts. So before heading home, spend a day or two seeing the sights or relaxing at Kovalam Beach enjoying your last few days in India.
