Partials are divided into three parts, so we'll have three discussion threads, one for each part :)

Here you we can discuss the first part of the book! (No spoilers after that part!)

I did enjoy this first part! I do love science, so this was right up my alley.

I enjoy all the characters as well, and this might turn out to be a really good book! The writing style also fits the story well (:

I'm not a huge fan of time jumps in books (actually, I hate them so badly), so kinda disappointed about that, but I'll see how it turns out!

Carlie Ann (carlielucas) Yeah I felt the same way but it gets a lot better

Jennifer (j2e1n9) I'm enjoying the beginning. It is exciting enough to keep my attention and I'm enjoying the characters so far. None of them have started to annoy me yet which is always a big plus!

Lisa | 6 comments Is anyone else struggling? Because I thought I would love this book and read it in a few days, but I can't keep reading for some reason.

message 7: by Carlie (new)

Carlie Ann (carlielucas) I kind of felt like that but I was so captivated by the world Dan Wells had made and the actual thought he put in

message 8: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (thepandasaurus) Anyone else that likes Jayden a lot? I have a bad feeling ... I don't need another character that I love so so much, I already have too many, ahhhh!

But I really enjoyed the first part! It's exciting and a bit confusing but it manages to keep my attention. And Kira seems very likeable! The whole pregnancy and baby thing is terrifying and just really cruel ... I'm curious for Part 2 now!!

message 9: by Gitte (new)

Gitte (skoboksen) | 24 comments I've finally got my hands on Partials! I liked part 1 a lot.

I don't know what I expected, but I've had my share of young, irritating female protagonists, so I was positively surprised by Kira. Yes, her plan is reckless and unlikely to succeed, but I see where she is coming from. I mean, seriously, getting pregnant as often as possible knowing that you will end up seeing your babies die? That's no way to live, being a baby-making machine for the Senate.

As a feminist, I can't help but feel that the Hope Act is extremely unfair - all females have to go through the pain and trauma of pregnancy, birth and losing a child? That's just not OK. When Marcus didn't support the plan, my first thought was "Easy for you to say as a male, the Hope Act doesn't really affect you."

I don't know if we'll see more to Owen Tovar, but I liked the guy. (Macon, Georiga is also the hometown of Lee Everett in Telltale Games' Walking Dead - a game I like a lot, maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe it's the fact that he has a camel.)

I totally agree with you!! And ... *high fives you* LEE EVERETT! ♥ I though the same, oh god! Tovar seemed nice and I liked him ... although I'm not sure if we'll see him again, hm. Would be great!

Opal (opalmariell) | 6 comments I'm so slow!! Have barely had time for reading (because I've been chased by bears instead if you were wondering-.-) but finally got to the end of part 1 and OMG! No, sorry no time for praising, must keep reading!

message 12: by Olivia (new)

Olivia | 16 comments I think part one was great, and I'm sorry, because alot of you are going to hate what I say, but I was worried it would turn out like divergent or all those other books but it didn't! It has been such a good book so far and I agree with Gitte. I like Kira also and her family/home. So to sum it all up it has been a good book so far!

message 13: by Gabija (new)

Gabija (gabvamp) I had such high expectations for Partials, and I'm happy to say I wasn't disappointed so far. I really loved how the world development was imbedded into the writing and not just shoved at you in a word vomit. The characters were really likeable and relatable, and I could understand why Kira decided to go ahead with her plan since Madison and those people were like her family. Sorry I'm too tired to write all of their names. I didn't really like that Marcus disagreed with Kira's plan, I would have thought that he would have been more understanding in the position she was in. Can't wait to continue reading!

I agree. Marcus should have been more supporting!
