Dana Goodman (goodreadscomdanagoodman) | 5 comments During the time my son was dying of Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumour, a mother, whose 10-year-old daughter had died of the same tumour, sent me Wolterstorff's book. Wolterstorff's honesty during his darkest times gave me hope to go on. He put into words that which could not be put into words, thus normalizing my own heartache. His lament helped me to see that our grief journeys are love stories. His book inspired me to write my own lament about loss/pain/heartache/hope and faith. I highly recommend this book and would love some discussion around Wolterstorff's Lament For A Son

In the Cleft Joy Comes In the Mourning: A Story of Hope After Tragedy

Patrick Thyne (PatrickThyne) | 4 comments Dana,

I'm so very sorry for your loss. My own son was killed in an automobile accident 15 years ago and I know all too well the depths of grief and despair losing a child brings.

Thank you for recommending "Lament For a Son" and for sharing about your own book as well. I will add them both to my reading list.

I wrote a book on grief myself, after over a decade of my family and I navigating the murky, chill waters of loss and and the batterings it brought to our faith. The book is called The Awful Grace of God: A Memoir of Faith, Death and the Survival of Hope. The exercise of writing this work helped my own healing immensely, and I offer it here in the hopes that reading it might do the sane for others.

I'm new go Goodreads and this group, and I look forwarding to learning along with this community.

Dana Goodman (goodreadscomdanagoodman) | 5 comments Hi Patrick. Thank you so much for sharing about your story and your book. Your book will offer hope to those who feel like life has taken away more than it has given. Bless you
Something I have done with other christian authors is a book swap. I purchase your ebook and you purchase mine and then we give each other reviews on amazon, goodreads and other sites. I would be willing to do that if you'd like. I'd love to read your book and we can help each other out in the crazy marketing world. Thanks Patrick. Dana

Dana Goodman (goodreadscomdanagoodman) | 5 comments Hi Patrick:
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing about your book. I sent you a message, but I don't think it sent. I'm wondering if you'd like to do a book swap and a review for each other. I purchase your ebook and you purchase mine and then we put reviews on goodreads, Amazon and other sites. Let me know what you think. Dana

Patrick Thyne (PatrickThyne) | 4 comments Dana, thanks so much for your messages. It's been a busy few weeks but I finally made it back. I have a few books I need to read for work in the short term but a book swap is a great idea and the purchase timing is good - I'm going to list the Kindle edition for free starting tomorrow for the rest of the month, in honor of the anniversary of my son's death. I'll be back tomorrow to post details so you can get your copy during the giveaway period - and I'll do my best to get through the work material quickly so I can read yours.
