Bookworm with Kids This is the nomination thread for our June Monthly Read. I am proposing a difference to our choice of book for this month - the TBR Pile-buster Nomination! People would use this thread to nominate a book to read this month from their own TBR pile and give a reason for reading it this month. We would all be reading different books but it might generate discussions about a range of different books.
What does anybody think?

Clare O'Beara | 159 comments I'm currently reading Dark Emu
Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe
which is a scholarly but very readable book, demonstrating that the Aborigines in Australia had sizeable agricultural settlements, feeding up to 500 people on stored grains. They cultivated yams in the north, rice in coastal swamps and grain across the central plains. When the settlers came, their grazing animals gravitated unerringly to the nice scent of food and ate down the yams and grains in five or six years, whereupon the continent desertified.
So I am glad to get this book off the TBR pile and I recommend it to any reader. I am seeing a lot that is new to me, including the photos.

I checked and mine doesn't either. and it's a huge and wealthy system. Sigh.

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I just finished it Sunday and my book club was Monday night. We had the biggest turnout ever with 10 people. Overall was it a big hit with everyone. I found it incredibly moving. I have never read a novel from a father's point of view that was so full of love, and guilt. I haven't written up my review yet but will have to do so.
