SUMMER 2019 READING CHALLENGE

Thanks for continuing to do this. These seasonal reading challenges broaden my scope of reading material. I wouldn't otherwise branch out and explore new territory if it wasn't for this.
I'm still finishing up some Spring Reading Challenge titles. I started a new job during the Spring Challenge and that set me back on my reading - didn't really get a good look at things until May.
This time I'll get an earlier start and I'm definitely interested in the new Blake Crouch novel :-)

I think

Congrats on the new job. :)"
I agree, Recursion is going to make a great group read!

Thanks for the update, Christine! :D

I’m having a difficult time concentrating, but thought it was good.

Thanks for the update, Danell! :)
Did your husband have his surgery? Hope all is well.

I have The Winter People in Que for Jennifer McMahon. I've never read a book by that author.

I'm reading that one right now."
I liked that one but be it’s definitely a book that takes its time.
Look forward to hearing what you think of it-Hope you enjoy. :)

I was thinking of reading Once Upon a River. Maybe in the future.
Hope everyone had a great Independence Day!

We leave tonight after work for a check in time of 5:45 a.m. for surgery on Monday.

Hope everything goes well with the surgery and he gets some relief from the pain.

I've started reading The Winter People. You'll have to let me know what the mistake is after I finish the story or get past the point where it won't ruin the story anyway :-)

I've started reading Recursion by Blake Crouch. Anyone else currently reading this or already finished?

Home from husbands surgery. It went well. The Dr. was happy with the results and the nurses were sad to see us go. Next step staples out and six week check up.

Glad everything went well. :)

I was actually going to post asking when everyone was planning to read it as I have the book but haven’t started it yet. How is it so far?

Sounds like a plan :-) Thanks!

I'm more than one third of the way through Recursion. Although it's not a sequel to Dark Matter, it does seem to be a variation on a common theme. Very intriguing about Memory and Reality. I love this kind of story.

Glad you’re enjoying it-planning to start it soon.
Recursion is quite intriguing. It's gonna be interesting where this story goes - already been all over the place so it's hard to tell how things are going to end up.
I've also got some other titles by Jennifer McMahon and Diane Setterfield lined up for August.
I'm currently reading On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan. I watched the film and the book is pretty short so thought I'd go ahead and use that for the Summer Reading Challenge.

The bonus/random task this time is to read a book by your favorite author, so I was wondering who everyone considers their favorite author.
Surprisingly, I actually choose Dan Chaon over Dean Koontz. Koontz is very prolific where Dan Chaon has not published as much - mostly short stories. Not sure if I'll get a Dan Chaon re-read in before the end of August or not.

My favorite authors have definitely changed over the years but as of now I really love Stephen King, Gillian Flynn, Tess Gerritsen & Louise Penny.

Tom had his staples removed. 28 was the final tally.
I hope to get back to Recursion, only 20 some pages in, but an audiobook I’ve had on hold for weeks came in. Readers issues!

Thanks for the update, Danell! :)
Hope Tom is feeling better.

Danell, I'm glad Tom is recovering well.
My favorite author is Stephen King too but I am going to choose another favorite for the challenge, Diana Galbadon, who writes the Outlander and Lord John series. Other favorite authors are Barbara Kingsolver, Elizabeth Berg, Anna Quindlen and Isabel Allende.
I hope all is well with everyone.

Thanks for the update, Christine! :)
Glad you’re enjoying the summer. :)

Hope you guys are enjoying it-look forward to hearing your thoughts about it.
I know I say this every season but can you believe how fast the summer has gone.
Enjoy the sunshine! :)

Some books are at the right time, some aren’t. Wise choice Rachel.
Summer does go by fast.
I enjoyed The Winter People so much that I have started two more books by Jennifer McMahon. The Night Sister and Burntown

Anyone seen the film "Where'd You Go Bernadette?" yet? I read the book earlier this year as part of a seasonal reading challenge when books that were being made into films was one of the tasks. I will probably watch it tomorrow. I'm still working at the movie theaters on weekends so I get free movies and I watch a lot of movies.

Thanks for the update, Dustin! :)
I’ve been meaning to read The Winter People for a while. Glad you enjoyed it.

I haven’t seen it. Let us know what you think. :)

Thanks for the update, Danell! Glad to hear it finished strong.
P.S. Great profile pic! :)

The Summer 2019 Reading Challenge will start June 7th and end August 31st.
Rules of the challenge:
Read 3 books (or more)
Complete 3 tasks (or more)
Any genre okay
Rereads okay
So this summer, complete 3 (or more) of the following:
1. Several authors celebrate their birthdays this season.
So this summer, READ A BOOK BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
Jennifer McMahon-June 5th
Ian McEwan-June 21st
Diane Setterfield-August 22nd
Elizabeth Acevedo-I don’t actually know her birthday but it might be in the summer (and she’s awesome so I had to include her in the author task :)
2. June is beautiful in your skin month.
So this summer,
READ A BOOK WITH THE WORD “SKIN” IN THE TITLE/SUBTITLE.
3. June is also country cooking month.
So this summer,
READ A BOOK SET, AT LEAST IN PART, IN THE COUNTRY.
Or
READ A COOKBOOK.
4. Blake Crouch has a new book called Recursion coming out on June 11th.
So this summer,
PARTICIPATE IN THE GROUP READ OF RECURSION.
5. Many game shows from the past are being brought back to television this summer.
So this summer,
READ A BOOK IN WHICH A GAME IS PART OF THE STORY.
6. The remake of the lion king will be released in theaters on July 19th. The trailer looks amazing.
So this summer,
READ A BOOK WITH THE LETTERS L-I-O-N
IN THE TITLE/SUBTITLE.
7. Random task. This task counts towards the challenge but isn’t inspired by the season. I had a hard time coming up with one so let’s turn back time with this task from a while back:
READ A BOOK BY YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR.
HAPPY SUMMER! :D
