Which book has the best movie adaption. I think this could almost be broken into catagories of most faithful, best overall adaption, and best inspired work (ie iron giant, or world war z, not really the same as the book, but uses the title and same general premise).

Pickle | 6 comments from what ive read:

most faithful
A Scanner Darkly

Best Adaptation
A Scanner Darkly i love it but other recommendation would be if it counts 2001: A Space Odyssey or John Carpenter's The Thing, i found the short story Who Goes There?weak.

best inspired which doesnt use the title and is similar to a point:

Bladerunner from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Ally (leopardqueen) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy because I thought it was very faithful and it was as enjoyable to watch as it was to read.
On a side note, a book that was also made well into a movie wins my heart for favourite movie and favourite graphic novel. I love V for Vendetta

My vote:

Most faithful:<\b>
Jurassic Park, The Sphere (I'm a Crichton fan)

Best adaptation:<\b>
Blade Runner, from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. What an ace film!

Anthony Eichenlaub (anthony_eichenlaub) I've always liked how Stanley Kubrick adapted books into movies. It seems to me that he's not faithful at all to the original work, but usually comes up with something that is very good on its own and often compliments the original work in some way.

Clockwork Orange is a good example, and 2001: Space Odyssey. Both very good on their own but very different from the books.
