Katie Burke (katiekate98) Hey guys! So I thought it would be cool to see what everybody else likes to do besides read? Does anyone blog or have a sport they really enjoy?

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) Kayaking, walking, jigsaws, cross-stitch, looking at other peoples lovely gardens, hanging out at the beach, eating chocolate, drinking wine......

Katie Burke (katiekate98) I've always wanted to try kayaking. Is it really hard?

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) No, its really enjoyable. I used to do a lot of it (every day in fact) but now we live inland it's a holiday pastime only - and I do miss it! The hardest thing is getting in and out of the kayak.

Jasna Nickells | 116 comments Swimming is my main hobby. But I also like to make pastry and run. Reading is included in there too

I love baking more than cooking, so we would make a good team! ;) If you ever publish a book, I'll be sure to be one of the first to get one. I'm big on blogging. One of my friends and I are even thinking of starting a review channel on youtube.

That's a great combination Jasna...I love pastries but am unable to run due to tendon damage in my knee (or I would eat more of them). I do walk to and from work most days (about 40 mins) a good excuse to listen to audiobooks!

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) Kara wrote: "I gotta be careful about exercising because of my knee. I run and walk to my full extend but then I deal with major knee pain for a week"

And it is a pain 8:(

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) for ever.......mine has been 3 years now. It is not painful any more (unless i do something stupid), but remains swollen. I can have surgery, but that means I will be off work for at least 6 weeks and as I have my own business, it really is not an option. My daughter in law had hers surgically repaired though and it has been great ever since.

Thanks. I love swimming and I do it competitively along with my sister who started with me around a year ago she isn't in my group yet but getting there. Pastry is basically the only thing I can beat my other sister at when it comes to cooking.

Mariah (themariah) | 5 comments Haha, well, not quite. Dancing with the Stars is more flashy than the real, social dancing.

message 14: by Mariah (new)

Mariah (themariah) | 5 comments Well, I learned dancing at the local Arthur Murray Dance Studio. But there are other dance studios to look at.

Debbie Zapata Gardening, writing (links to my writer's page on GR are on my profile page), cross-stitch even though I hardly ever have time for it these days, LIFE itself and walking...lots and lots of walking: we participate in ultramarathons and just finished our annual 145 Hours ultra. 6 days and nights of walking. I only managed 113.5 miles, my body wasn't up to snuff this year. My record is 175. We have two 24 Hour ultras a year also. My record for 24 hours is 50 miles. My goal for next year is to walk my age.

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* (bwilliams2013) I'm a soccer coach, cartographer and a hiker. I used to be a collegiate athlete before I destroyed my joints. My brother and I are obscenely competitive at everything, especially sports. I also love to cook and I have a blog: tarabelletalking.blogspot.com

Jasna Nickells | 116 comments I've just got my 16 year old regional time! woo! :)

message 18: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin G I tried to cross stitch and was horrible at it. :(

message 19: by Jasna (new)

Jasna Nickells | 116 comments well, there are different regions that make up England. South West which is where I am, South East which is where London is, Midlands and so on. you first have to go through counties to get to regional and then through regional to get to national which is the whole of England. That's the gist of it anyway.

Sandysbookaday (taking a midwinter break) (sandyj21) Kaitlin wrote: "I tried to cross stitch and was horrible at it. :("

it takes practice......my first attempts were just awful! But it is quite soothing once you get the hang of it. it is a winter pastime for me...when it is too cold and wet to get out into the garden.
If you are interested in continuing, find someone who is good at it to give you a few pointers - it makes all the difference. 8:D

I love soccer and I desperately wish it was taken more seriously in the USA

message 25: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin G I played soccer for 17 years.

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* (bwilliams2013) Kaitlin wrote: "I played soccer for 17 years."

Right on! I played for 16 years or so and I miss playing so much.

message 27: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin G Me too honestly. I stopped playing to be in an international dance company for 5 years. Maybe I can get back in to soccer. I know we have adult indoor in ohio. I dont know about where you live though :(

I'm from Alabama and while there are semi-pro leagues going on right now, I was unfortunately run through the orthopedic wringer and can no longer play. My doctor is researching an big plastic bubble for me.

Get back into it if you can. I'd be eternally jealous.

message 29: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin G Man, that stinks. I'm sorry.

I coach now though :-) Little kids playing soccer is hilarious.
