Star Wars Bookworms Book Club discussion

What did everyone take away from the foreword? What thoughts came to mind? Do you think this was necessary to start off the new book and new official Star Wars literary timeline/canon?

I appreciated it. At this point, having a foreward from Dave Filoni is almost like having one from George Lucas.

For those of us that follow Star Wars, and especially the Expanded Universe closely, there wasn't really any new information. I think it's helpful to have this for people that might not have been aware of the Legends change though. My mother-in-law just found out about the canon update yesterday morning!

I think it also shows the general excitement and care that Lucasfilm is taking with the Star Wars franchise in general. Like Dave said, more Star Wars stories are in the works now than ever before, and that's exciting.

I'm glad it was there and agree with Brian's comments. It did a good job of reiterating the information that's come out dealing with the story group and changes to canon.
I love Dave's work and his passion so I'm glad this intro, for really all that's to come, came from him.
The other part that hit me is the fact that George Lucas is retired. Over the years he's let a lot of people play in his sandbox and now it's up to those to carry on the stories.

While I am encouraged by the proposed collaboration across mediums I felt like the introduction felt apologetic somehow. I think it is nice to see Dave adding in his thoughts, but really they should not have to justify the change. I guess it just kind of sounded like a sales pitch as much as anything and I feel like it was not needed.

I personally feel like this touch was added to help those fans that are struggling with the change. I also think it was used to show how much of a team everyone at Lucasfilm, lucasbooks etc. have become. They are working very hard for us to give us one cohesive universe. With the new world of star wars about to begin this book is really starting off this brand new era. I think it is a great place to begin unifying fans and bringing new fans into the star wars literary world. There is so much potential and I for one am glad that Dave Filoni is on board.

I think the idea behind the foreword was to underscore both the introductory role of the book, and to explain the new process to folks who might not have been aware that the books now interact more directly with the other media.

My own statements in the acknowledgments -- well, I would have made them in any event. I had suggested putting them at the end to provide a bookend with the foreword, but I think their acknowledgment pages have just always gone in the front.
