A charming story set in a down and out town in small town America. Three kids (Ryan, Emmett and Lizzy) start an unlikely friendship when they discover they can overhear people's wishes spoken into the town's legendary wishing well. When the wishes start coming true is it magic or just coincidence? And what do the old possessions that Emmett finds in his late grandfather's attic have to do with it? The characters are somewhat stereotyped but despite this I found them engaging, and the clever interweaving of various mini-plots within the book, while at times a bit of a stretch, made it a really enjoyable read. Themes of hope, friendship and kindness. I wouldn't recommend it as a read aloud as at the interweaving plots and multiple voices could be confusing but an extremely satisfying read nonetheless.
