Susie I was a bit worried about reading this, having read The Silence of the Girls so recently, but man did I love it. I found that each book complimented the other as they were told from different perspectives and different time frames. The balance between faithfulness to the original text and creative license was spot on. It really tugged at my heartstrings and I found it to be heart wrenching. It is often compared to the more recent Circe, and I have to say that I think I loved Achilles even more than Circe. What a wonderful writer Miller is.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments She is a great writer! I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next.

I was in the camp that liked Circe more and I still distinctly remember why: there was just something about the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus that seemed a little hollow to me. I felt the same way about Circe’s relationships but she was supposed to be detached and distant so it bothered me less in that book.

That was the only thing though, out of two books that I very much loved, that I could be nit-picky about!

Susie That's interesting. I didn't get that feeling reading it. I was enthralled by their love story. I think it was because I knew what was coming, so I was on the edge of my seat awaiting the grief that would follow. It's like Romeo and Juliet. I always hope for a different ending!

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments I read this ages ago (bought the hardcover) and fell in love with it. So much of this book is still fresh in my mind!

Susie I think it will stay with me too Tracy.

annapi | 5505 comments I also preferred this one to Circe, glad I'm not the only one!

Jgrace | 3937 comments Grrr, after last month I was thinking I wanted to get away from Greek myth for a while, but this is one of 4 possibles that I didn't get to. Thanks so much Susie. I was thinking I could skip this one after reading Silence of the Girls. Now, I've put it back on the list.

(Really, thanks for this. Great review)

Susie I’m fairly very you won’t be sorry Jgrace. I’m looking forward to reading your review.
