Play Book Tag discussion

Young and famous model, Lula Landry, has fallen to her death from the balcony of her flat in London and almost everyone, including the police, think it was suicide. Her brother disagrees and hires slightly seedy private detective, Cormoran Strike, to discover the truth. Amongst the potential murder suspects are film directors, rappers, fashion designers and high-powered lawyers, some of whom are also members of Lula's dysfunctional family.

I really enjoyed this. There is a great cast of characters, who are mostly not likeable, but Strike and his new PA, Robin, are well written and I want to know what happens to them next. I did correctly guess who the murderer was but that didn't matter because Strike and Robin are more important than the mystery.

This is on my trim and I look forward to reading it.

I've enjoyed every book in this series , so far. And that is saying something because this is not a genre that I usually read.

I think it gets better and better with each book. (view spoiler)[Although I thought it took way too long for Strike and Robin to finally get together - that Matt was an extremely annoying character and I couldn't figure out why a woman as self-possessed as Robin could have such a blind spot about him. I don't think you can assume that Strike and Robin are 'together'. It was annoying to read about Robin and Mark's relationship, but I do think it was very realistic. Robin has a history of struggling against gender expectations that get sidetracked by rape trauma. Rowling doesn't give any of her characters an easy time. They are all pretty messed up. Don't worry about it! I didn't see the spoiler at first but I read it anyway because I'm obviously late to the party on this series so I'd already seen hints. I don't often mind knowing something of a book before I read it as long as the story is good.

Love everything Rowling writes, including this book. Whenever I read one of her books, I feel like me and her are a perfect fit (as a reader-writer pair).

I'm glad to see a positive review. I've read a lot of mysteries, so I agree that it's all about the characters. I saw a few iffy reviews, but I trust the author, so I know I'll read it eventually. It's one of the London books I just picked up in case I have extra time at the end of the month. I can't believe it's already the 15th (in my time zone anyway).
