Paddington at the Zoo by Michael Bond and illustrated by R.W.Alley Paddington bear visits the Zoo with Jonathan and Judy. He packs six marmalade sandwiches to get him through the day however to his disappointment and gloom he realises the animals in the zoo have an eye on his marmalade sandwiches.
This picture book is a lovely short read for children within the age range of 4-11, the author has written the book using simple English language thus making it easy to read for children. Furthermore the pictures within the book are also age friendly as a result the book being visibly appealing. There are a few difficult words that some children may find a challenge or in pronouncing such as “elevenses” and “Siberian”.
I also personally think this book can not only help key stage one students with regards to English language and literature but also maths as they can count down how many sandwiches are being eaten by the animals in addition to learning manners as at the end of the book Paddington bear clearly states he likes the photograph with the parrot because the parrot had said thank you when he ate Paddington’s marmalade sandwich.
