Stephen King 2025 read-along discussion

Hello Constant Readers.... the summer just flew by didn't it? As a teacher, I enjoy my yearly break from being a busy mom and busy school mom where I help all of my lovely SPED kids. So Although I have good intentions of reading a lot during the summer I find myself staying up late and sleeping in.

This month's pick is Rose Madder. Before I started really collecting King's works I had never heard of this suspense before. Here's an old post about the book and the movie that was supposed to be picked up. https://www.empireonline.com/movies/n...

According to the article, "King's fantastical 1995 story is part domestic saga, part fairytale and part Greek myth. It involves a woman on the run from her violent husband, who acquires a painting that she can actually go inside. Once through the looking glass she encounters the insane Rose Madder, and undertakes a quest to face down a minotaur in its labyrinth. And then it's back to the real world, where our heroine finds she may be inheriting Rose Madder's mental health issues. And there's some business with a magic tree."

So no movie available to watch, but the story does sound fascinating.

I knew it involved an abusive husband and a painting, never knew about the fantastical element though. My mom's been begging me to read this one for years. Hopefully that means it's a good one. Fingers crossed!

I’m starting it today! One of the few king books I have not read .

Omgosh I’ve only read 4 pages and I’m crying! This is going to be hard to read .

First, I found it at the library and then I saw it at the charity bookshop, so i bought it for $4, and will return the library copy. I have another SK novel and two other books, so its better that I bought it. Plus, I don't like borrowing SK's books from the library since most are so long and will take me forever to read.

Yes Jackie SK books r crazy long. I’m on page 311 for August read and it’s driving me crazy wanting to know what happens lol. Enjoy

I know, I know....I'm a little late, but I started it today and yes the prologue was rough I had such an issue with it. I had to turn off the audio book twice and listen to music to get the taste out of my mouth.

So ready for sept book! It’s been about 16 years since I’ve read it.... I still have the same book:)

I wish I could juggle a bunch of books like that! Lol I used to be able to but now I can only focus on 2 at the most. I soooo need to read NOS4A2!

I’m reading 2 books right now.. Lol .. 2 completely different books so easy to keep up with it

It slows me down a little bit and I feel overwhelmed sometimes. NOS4A2 is great and it makes me think of King's own books.

I've only read Horns and part of Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill. I really wanna save NOS4A2 for around Christmas. Have you seen the show yet? I watched the first episode and then didn't want to spoil anything for myself lol

I am in the middle of a bunch of King books at the moment which is driving me crazy! I'm almost done with Needful Things I'm at the dang climax actually, 616/933. I'm also trying to finish up Four Past Midnight. I've read the first two stories, just need to continue on with The Library Policemen so 517/989. Lastly I'm still reading Rose Madder currently on page 175/595. Thank goodness this book is shorter than the others.

As for NOS4A2/NOS4R2 the tv show, I really want to watch it. Has anyone watched Castle Rock on Hulu? I started it months ago and only got to episode 3/4 I think before I got distracted and started doing something else. I have a hard time sitting down and watching actual shows.

I loved Castle Rock!! I even suckered my boyfriend into it lol. Can't wait for season 2!

I need to finish at least two of my library books, so I won’t put NOS42A aside. I’m feeling stressed about how many books I’m in the middle of and I got 4,or maybe 5, library books checked out.

I need to get back into that show, Bill Skarsgard is freaking hot. I mean all of his brothers are cute. But he looks a little more boyish than his other brothers. And....I dig the creepy lol

Same! I am so stressed out about all the books I'm in the middle of I took a break from serious reading this month. I just can't.

I hope you love IT. I really enjoyed that book and I'm still thinking about what books I want to read in October.
