Diva | 4 comments I just read the first 100 pages. Mira really did Fall from Grace! Hopefully she gets the Justice she deserves!

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments I read this book a couple years ago when it came in my Owlcrate and I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. I loved that Jodi didn't overemphasize the dragons' presence in the story or Mira's anxiety, that she gave equal attention to world building, character development, and conflict progression. Mira and Aaru's relationship was sweet and supportive, and Mira herself was easy to connect with.

Cheska (misscheska) | 5 comments I finished this book last month, and I just received the sequel "As She Ascends" from the library this week. I think the book has potential. I was definitely intrigued with Mira's world, the dragons, and her developing powers with the noorstones. I'm curious to see if her relationship with Aaru grows into something more in the next book.

I just didn't like the abrupt switch in the beginning chapters from privileged life as figurehead to abused captive of a sadistic guard. I think the author tried to explain things by doing flashbacks, but it confused me even more and I don't think it really explained a lot. Were her parents in on it, or were they just figureheads too? Was she born with her powers, or was it something that came out of stress? Who were the Dragon Warriors, and what's up with that guard? Too many questions! Too little answers! And of course, I want more dragons!

Sarah T I really like this book so far I love fantasy especially dragons!

Emily Bedford (emsbookishempire) I just got my copy in the mail today I’m so excited to read this, I’ve never heard of it until I joined this group

I agree that we didn't get a lot of explanatory back story, but I am assuming that everything will make more sense soon after the way the book ended. It was definitely written in that way where the first book is clearly an introduction to the rest of a series, but I felt that there was enough going on and Mira herself was interesting enough for me to overlook that.

Farren (mmmcookies) | 302 comments Normally I have a really bad memory and need to reread books when the sequels come out, but I remember this book with pretty good detail despite reading it a couple years ago. Probably because I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying it. If the group votes for the sequel in the next few months I'll have to bump it up on my TBR and read it with you guys. I think the final book is about to release too 🤔

A Lyric I’ve just now finished the book! I really enjoyed it. What did you guys think of Mira as the main character? I think it was interesting to have a heroine who wasn’t perfect. I deal with a lot of anxiety myself, and it was interesting to see another character deal with the same things I do.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments I just finished it too and I liked it! Gave it 4 stars. Not an absolute favorite of this year but overall good.

A Lyric I felt the same way. It wasn’t the best and it didn’t make me feel strong emotions, but it was still pretty good.

I was a little disappointed because the blurb made it seem like such a big part of the story, but there weren’t many scenes with the actual dragons. There was lots of mentions of dragons; but not many dragon characters involved in the plot. Anyone else felt the same way?

There was a lot less dragon stuff than I expected, but personally I preferred that. Based on the ending, I think the sequel will have a lot more though.

Ruthie (ruthieram_reads) | 45 comments I agree that it was interesting to have a character who was dealing with anxiety. It made her more interesting and relatable instead of how heroines sometimes seem perfect. I also agree it seems like there will be more dragons in the sequel. If anyone read Ash Princess with this group I definitely liked this book better than that book.

Emily Bedford (emsbookishempire) Finished it last night and gave it 5 stars I really really loved it and I’m so happy to have read about a character with anxiety I related so much and I’m so excited to continue with this series

Laurie B | 26 comments I read this back in March of 2018 and then book two last December. Very enjoyable series so far and I’m eagerly awaiting the final book!

I like Mira a lot and can relate to her struggles with anxiety. I think that part is described very well. But I also enjoy all the secondary characters, which is a nice bonus.

I thought the pacing of this first book was a little uneven and I’m not a big fan of huge cliffhanger endings. This is definitely a series where it’s better to read the books back-to-back because the next one picks up literally where this one ends. I’m guessing book three will do the same.

The pacing is better in book two and I can tell you that the dragons are much more present, which I loved. All the characters get good development in book two as well.

The final book is almost here! I hope it’s as good as the first two!
